SRHS Weekly Updates as of 10-20-24
Posted on 10/21/2024

Dear Falcon Families,

Fall brings some exciting events to our Scripps Ranch campus! This week the Falcon Playhouse presents “The Canterville Ghost.” Dress up in your Halloween costumes for opening night (Wednesday, 10/24) for a sweet “trick or treat” with the cast. This coming Friday, we will host a guest speaker from the Tariq Khamisa Foundation; see below for more information. The Marching Band is preparing for 11/2, when they will host the Falcon Invitational, here at the Scripps Ranch stadium at 2pm. More than a dozen bands will be present and competing. If any community members would like to help, and for more information, visit www.srhsmusic.com.

Our ASB hosted a successful blood drive this past week, and our fall sports started the countdown to CIFs with Fall Sports Senior Nights, beginning with Girls Tennis this past week on 10/17. Upcoming Fall Sports Senior Night dates are as follows: Girls Volleyball 10/23, Flag Football 10/28, Boys WaterPolo 10/28, Field Hockey 10/30, Football/Cheer/Band/Color Guard 11/1, and Cross Country 11/6. Visit srfalcons.org for other dates, locations, and all other SRHS athletics information, including scores and pictures.

This upcoming week marks two weeks away from the end of the second progress report grading period (ending on 11/1). If you are seeing signs that your student is struggling in a certain subject, please follow up with your student’s teacher and encourage your student to take advantage of a teacher’s tutoring times, on campus peer tutoring, and SR6 (Saturday School) sessions (see below for more details), especially if they have tardies or absences to recover. Students who pursue these opportunities to improve their grades and self- advocate, set themselves up for growth and success throughout the year.

Please see below for this week's updates. Please remind your students to check their grades and follow up with their teachers as we near the end of the second progress report grading period. And, as always, please remind your students to check their Google classroom for their grade level, and the ASB instagram page for events and deadlines. Visit the links below and check out the ASB Instagram page to help them stay on top of everything.

See below for the latest updates as of 10-20-24.

Modified Monday

As a reminder, every Monday is a modified Monday with school ending at 2:29pm. During the 2:29 - 3:23pm time window, teachers will be either (1) offering revision/reassessments for students or (2) will be meeting with their fellow colleagues to collaborate on instructional practices. Those teachers who are offering revision/reassessment opportunities will have communicated with their students. We encourage all students who have scheduled revision/reassessment opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

Guest Speaker

On Friday, October 25th, Falcons will welcome speakers from the Tariq Khamisa Foundation. In 1995, college student Tariq Khamisa was tragically killed by 14-year-old Tony Hicks during a gang initiation. Tony was charged as an adult and imprisoned. However, Tariq’s father, Azim, founded the TKF and eventually reached out to Tony’s grandfather, Ples Felix. Together, they work to prevent youth violence. The assembly, led by Tony (now a part of the Khamisa family) and Tariq’s sister, Tasreen, focuses on the power and importance of forgiveness.

SR6 Saturday Sessions - Reminder

Our next SR6 session is scheduled for Saturday 10/26 with available support in the subjects of Spanish and English; sign up here. SR6 (Scripps Ranch 6) is an academic support available to all students. It is a 6th day of school hosted on select Saturdays for four hours, 8am-12pm. SR6 will be hosted by a certificated teacher(s) who will provide instruction and support. A breakfast and lunch meal is available for all students attending SR6 at no charge. All students have been invited to their “Class of” Google Classroom, where they can view the content areas of the teacher(s) scheduled for each session, and sign up. SR6 is also an avenue for students to recover their attendance (AZTWs in PowerSchool) to remain eligible for school events. Additional opportunities for academic support and attendance recovery can be found on student’s Google Classroom as well. View Semester One SR6 Dates.

Federal Impact Aid Survey

It is that time of the year to help our school secure critical funding by completing the Federal Impact Aid form.  We are asking ALL families to complete the brief form by using one of the two options described below to help us qualify for funding.  Please note that all information provided will be treated confidentially. Impact Aid funds are designated to assist school districts that enroll federally connected students. In San Diego Unified, many students are federally connected based on where they live or where their parents work.  Impact Aid funds become part of the district’s general operating budget and support instructional activities for ALL students.

HOW:

Option 1 (preferred)

Complete the form through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

  • Login at https://powerschool.sandi.net/

  • Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2024-25 Impact Aid Survey.

  • Follow the prompts and submit the form.  Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.

  • If you do not yet have a parent Portal account, contact Jason Lyons ([email protected]).

Option 2

Paper forms will also be distributed by our school the last week of October (If you have previously completed the form in PowerSchool, you do not need to complete the paper form).  Please sign, date and return the form to our school by November 15, 2024.
