Dear Falcon Families,
Here we are, our last week before Thanksgiving break. The students and staff are both ready for a much deserved rest. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we’ll have three weeks remaining until winter break. As we near the end of the semester, please remind your students to check their grades and take advantage of any opportunities to improve by talking to their teachers and taking advantage of tutoring resources.
Congratulations to both our boys and girls cross country teams for each winning the division 2 CIF championship! What an amazing feat for both teams. Don’t forget to check out how the rest of our student athletes are doing in their CIF games. Visit srfalcons.org for information on dates, locations, and all other SRHS athletics details, including scores and pictures. Our Scripps Ranch Marching Band will compete in its final competition (for the season) this coming Saturday, 11/23. Visit https://www.srhsmusic.com/ for updates and more information.
As always, students should also check their grade level Google Classroom for updates and stay connected with the ASB Instagram page for event details and upcoming deadlines. In this week’s announcements, please check out details about the lockdown drill scheduled for Tuesday this week, the remaining SR6 (Saturday School) dates, and the scheduled training for the San Diego Miramar FireFighter Academy.

Lockdown Drill - Reminder
We will have a Lock Down Drill on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 during 4th period. Students and staff will practice closing and locking all doors and staff will test using their radios. I will send out a reminder the day before on November 18th, the day of (November 19th) just before it begins, and I will send out notification once the drill concludes. We will also be very clear with students that this is a drill so as to minimize any fears or worries. The drill will last between 20 to 30 minutes. During this time, students will remain with their teachers and will follow lockdown protocols (minimal use of cell phones, keep doors and windows closed, blinds closed).
Counseling Updates
-
Summer School information was emailed to parents and students on Tuesday, November 5th. Please review the email for dates and locations. There will be no Math or Spanish acceleration classes offered in the district this summer to high school students. Summer school will not be offered at SRHS this summer.
-
Remind your seniors that this Thursday, November 21st is the last College Application Lab. The lab will be offered from 1:00-2:00 PM during lunch and the beginning of 6th period in room B1. This is to get questions answered and have final applications reviewed before submitting. We do not work over Thanksgiving Break while school is closed.
SR6 - Remaining Dates for Semester 1
Our last SR6 sessions for semester one are scheduled for:
-
Saturday 12/7 (available support in theater and math), and
-
Saturday 12/14 (with available support in theater and Spanish).
Students can also choose to join the Garden Club in the garden with Mr. Johnson on 12/14 as well. SR6 (Scripps Ranch 6) is an academic support available to all students. It is a 6th day of school hosted on select Saturdays for four hours, 8am-12pm. SR6 will be hosted by a certificated teacher(s) who will provide instruction and support. A breakfast and lunch meal is available for all students attending SR6 at no charge. SR6 is also an avenue for students to recover their attendance (AZTWs in PowerSchool) to remain eligible for school events. Additional opportunities for academic support and attendance recovery are available as well and can be found on student’s Google Classroom. View Semester One SR6 Dates.
Live Fire Training at San Diego Miramar College
From November 15th to November 21st, San Diego Miramar College will conduct their annual FireFighter Academy Training Program “Live Training,” which includes actual fires using “clean combustible smoke.” The surrounding areas will see smoke from the training burns taking place. The following message comes directly from the training academy announcement:
The training burns last between 20-30 minutes and will be conducted 4 times each day, typically two before lunch and two after lunch. The amount of smoke is not enough to impact the surrounding communities but will be visible from a distance. We want everyone to know this is not an emergency and there is no need to call emergency services. Local fire and police dispatch centers will be notified prior to each burn day. These training burns are part of the required curriculum for our FireFighter Academy students training. The following precautions have been taken:
-
Conducted Air Quality Management Study.
-
Coordinate temporary HVAC system shutoffs to nearby L, M, N, and R buildings with the Facilities Department.
-
Purchased Fire Science Technology recommended special non-toxic organic wax impregnated Sound Board used in the exercise to minimize fumes/smoke and contaminants.
-
Use state of the art Draeger Containerized Live Fire Training System designed in accordance with relevant NFPA and CSA standards and guidelines.
Partner with nearby Fire Agency personnel (SDFD & Cal Fire) to be additional onsite monitors during training burns.
Federal Impact Aid Survey - Reminder
It is that time of the year to help our school secure critical funding by completing the Federal Impact Aid form. We are asking ALL families to complete the brief form by using one of the two options described below to help us qualify for funding. Please note that all information provided will be treated confidentially. Impact Aid funds are designated to assist school districts that enroll federally connected students. In San Diego Unified, many students are federally connected based on where they live or where their parents work. Impact Aid funds become part of the district’s general operating budget and support instructional activities for ALL students.
HOW:
Option 1 (preferred)
Complete the form through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
-
Login at https://powerschool.sandi.net/
-
Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2024-25 Impact Aid Survey.
-
Follow the prompts and submit the form. Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.
-
If you do not yet have a parent Portal account, contact Jason Lyons ([email protected]).
Option 2
Paper forms will also be distributed by our school the last week of October (If you have previously completed the form in PowerSchool, you do not need to complete the paper form). Please sign, date and return the form to our school by November 15, 2024.
