SRHS Weekly Updates as of 9-14-25
Posted on 09/14/2025

Dear Falcon Families,

We have made it to the last week of the first progress report grading period (first six weeks will end on Friday, September 19th). Now is a great time to review your student’s progress and have them reach out to their teachers if they have questions or need follow up help regarding assignments and assessments. Saturday School (SR6) starts soon, so students will also have the opportunity to make up tardies, absences, and get some work done. All information is posted on your student’s Google classroom page for their grade level. Please ask them to review it regularly for updates.

Fall sports are in full swing! Please check out the athletics website (LINK) for game and match schedules, and come out to cheer on our Falcons! The new website has a scrolling bar at the top that makes it a breeze to find out what’s happening any given week.

Our Weekly College Series kicked off last week, thanks to the hard work of our Scripps Ranch Foundation. The series continues each week, Wednesdays at lunch, in the library. The event is open to all students; please encourage your students to stop in and gain powerful insight into a wide variety of college opportunities. For more details, see below. And don’t forget to save the date for our upcoming College Showcase, featuring 100 Universities! This event will be held on Thursday, October 16th from 6-8pm in the SRHS Gym.  More information will be provided closer to the event.

This week’s updates include information about our SRHS SSC and SGT parent team, the new information course in Canvas for students, the upcoming SDUSD student survey, a 4x4 Block Scheduling Input Session, the Wednesday College Series, and more. Please see below for details. And for your students - please remind them Homecoming will be here soon (October 11th). Remind your students to show their school spirit and check out all the fun events SRHS has to offer.

New SDUSD Canvas Course for all High School Students - Reminder

All students in grades 9-12 have been added to a new informational classroom on Canvas.

The San Diego Unified Informational Classroom is designed to be a place for high school students to access important updates and information relevant to them – anything from district policy updates like the Phone-Free School Day to scholarship opportunities. Students should have received an automatic invitation to join the classroom. However, they can self-enroll in the course here: https://sandiegounified.instructure.com/enroll/W4XJAL. Or, they can sign up at https://sandiegounified.instructure.com/register  and use the following join code: W4XJAL

Please encourage your students to visit this Canvas course weekly to stay up-to-date with all of the latest information and opportunities.

Upcoming SDUSD Student Survey - Reminder

We are preparing for the fall administration of the Student Survey. The Student Survey is designed for students in grades 3–12 and focuses on school climate, engagement, and belonging. Survey Administration Windows are Fall Window: September 15, 2025 – September 26, 2025 and Spring Window: March 16, 2026 – March 27, 2026.

Block Scheduling Input Session - Reminder

San Diego Unified School District currently uses a 4x4 block schedule in 13 of our high schools.  The school district is exploring the implementation of the 4x4 block schedule for the remainder of our comprehensive high schools, including SRHS. The district is looking for your input and holding a virtual session. Parents and guardians of current or future students are invited to attend engagement sessions listed below:

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up - Reminder

At Scripps Ranch High, during pick-up and drop-off times has been a problem since our school has “one way in and one way out.” In order to limit traffic as much as possible, we are asking parents/guardians to drop off their students in designated locations on the East Side of Falcon Way, Scripps Lake Drive, or Treena Street. See this Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up for details. Please do not park along any curbs that are painted red in front of the theatre or at the top of Falcon Way; these are to be kept open in case of emergency. View these Traffic Safety Tips for drivers and students from SDUSD.

Attendance Procedure Updates - Reminder

New this year, parents/guardians will report student absences via two Google forms. There is an Early Release Request form and an Absence/Late Arrival Notification form. These forms will go live on the first day of school, August 11th. Although anyone can access these forms, submissions will only be received when sent using the parent/guardian email address on file in PowerSchool. All other submissions will be automatically blocked. You may have a new attendance clerk—see below. All information regarding attendance, including the links, can be found on the attendance website and pages 12-16 in the student handbook.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
