Dear Falcon Families,
One week down! We hope your first week of “back to school” activities went smoothly for all of you. Last week, we welcomed over 1900 students back to campus. Teachers worked through our Week of Welcome program with students, while counselors helped students with their schedules, and ASB welcomed students during lunch with fun activities. We ended our week with grade level assemblies to get our Falcons excited for the coming year. All in all, it was a fun, energetic start, and we are looking forward to much more ahead! As always, we encourage our families to be active participants in their students’ education, and we hope to see you on campus at games, events, and so forth. Together, we can work to build on our incredible learning community.
Fall sports programs are underway and starting strong. Our Football team, and our Women’s Volleyball team had scrimmages and games, and theater wrapped its summer production. Our Competitive Cheer team completed a successful cheer camp, and after band camp, our Marching Band continues preparations for this competition season. We wish all our Falcons luck as they rehearse and practice, getting ready for competition.

Tell your students to mark their calendars: The first of our Weekly College Series on Wednesdays will be September 16th; Boise State University and University of Delaware Southern will be featured. The College Series takes place at lunch (12:55-1:25) in the library, and all students are welcome. More information, coming soon.
Save the date! On October 15, 2026 Scripps Ranch will host The College Showcase, an event featuring 80 colleges!. More information to follow, as we get closer to the date.
The first meeting of the SR Schools Committee will be this week, Wednesday August 19th. Here are some details about this important event:
SR Schools Committee Wednesday August 19, 2026 @ 4:30 pm (Topic: District Budget Updates)
The Scripps Ranch Schools Committee (SRSC) is the community voice for the six public non-charter schools in the Scripps Ranch Cluster. We bring together residents, families, teachers, and school personnel. The task is to raise awareness of issues, research and discuss them, and make recommendations to SDUSD, the Board of Education, and the City of San Diego. Meetings are open to all community members and offer an opportunity for parents to hear about some of the district-wide policies affecting our schools in Scripps Ranch.
This school year, some of the topics we will cover include budget updates, screen time in classrooms, literacy and math curriculum updates, and mental health. Agendas are provided the week before and we will be recording meetings and providing access to the meeting minutes and presentations for those interested.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 4:30 PM throughout the school year (some virtual and some in person), with our first meeting taking place on August 19, 2026 via Zoom (link below).

As a reminder, every Monday is a Modified Monday, with school dismissal at 2:29pm. This Monday, 8/18, teachers will attend an all staff Professional Development meeting from 2:45 to 3:45pm. If students need to see their teachers, they should follow up and coordinate directly with them.

Attendance: A Major Focus This Year
The 2026–27 SRHS Family Attendance Guide will remain linked in the header of each weekly parent message throughout the year for easy reference. As a reminder, please report absences promptly and submit same-day early-release requests by 10:00 a.m. Requests submitted after 10:00 a.m. will require a parent or guardian to come to the Attendance Office in person, show identification, and check the student out. Students who become ill during the school day should report to the Health Office. Thank you for helping us protect instructional time and keep students in class, on time, every day.
How To Report An Absence, Late Arrival, Or Early Release
For parents/guardians who have a gmail account, the SRHS Attendance Form is the preferred method for reporting a full-day absence, late arrival, or early release.The form must be submitted from a parent or guardian email address listed in PowerSchool. Parents/guardians wanting to update their email address in PowerSchool can follow these steps.

From Yearbook: A Note About This Year's Cover: Senior Signatures - Reminder
This year's yearbook cover will feature something special: the names of our seniors, styled to look like handwritten signatures, worked right into the artwork on the front and back cover. Names will be pulled from the official senior class list in PowerSchool and rendered in a signature-style font as part of the design.
With roughly 450 seniors in this year's class, we simply don't have the physical space to fit every name on the cover itself while keeping the design something everyone will be proud to hold. So here's how we're handling it fairly:
- We'll use a random drawing to select approximately 200 senior names to feature on the front and back covers, and the placement of each name will also be randomized.
- Every senior whose name isn't selected for the cover will still, to the best of our abilities, be recognized in a place of honor elsewhere in the book, in the senior section.
We want to be clear about why we're doing it this way: this is purely a matter of physical space and artistic design. A cover with 450 names crammed onto it would be unreadable and wouldn't do justice to anyone. Random selection ensures the process is completely impartial. It has nothing to do with anyone's involvement, achievements, or standing, and every senior will still be represented in the book.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to make this year's cover something the whole class can be proud of.
Student Parking - Reminder
The student parking lots are located inside the campus gates, and the gates will be closed during the school day. Student parking lots will be the South Parking Lot, the west side of the Bungalow Lot, and certain spots in the parking lot outside of the 700 building. See the Student Parking Lots for a visual.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up - Reminder
At Scripps Ranch High School, traffic during student drop-off and pick-up can be challenging because our campus has only one way in and one way out. To help reduce traffic as much as possible, we are asking parents and guardians to drop off and pick up students at the designated locations along the east side of Falcon Way, Scripps Lake Drive, or Treena Street. Please see the Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up information for additional details.
Finance Office Hours - Reminder
Starting Aug 10th: Monday-Friday before school from 8:00-8:25 am and lunch time.
The finance office will not be open after school.
