SRHS Weekly Updates as of 9-27-26
Posted on 09/28/2026

Dear Falcon Families,

We hope everyone has had a great weekend, as we enter our first full week of fall. Last week the students had fun participating in Homecoming Spirit Week by dressing up, attending the football game against San Diego High School, and then dancing the night away at our “Hocochella” themed Hoco dance on Saturday night. At the game, ASB hosted an incredible half time show with outstanding performances from our Dance and Cheer teams.

Our Marching Band students are finalizing their show, “Eye See You,” and getting closer to their first competition. They are also getting ready for the Marching Band Falcon Invitational Tournament, held at Scripps Ranch on October 24th. The Falcon Playhouse will open with “Alice by Heart” later next month. Keep an eye out for ticket information. Our fall sports teams are nearing the end of their seasons with CIF championship games on the horizon. For more information about our other programs (shows and competitions), visit the following links: Falcon Playhouse go HERE, Music Program (marching band in the fall) go HERE, ASB updates go HERE, and AFROTC program go HERE.

As we begin the second progress report grading period, please encourage your students to talk to their teachers if they are struggling with a course. There are many helpful resources available to them on campus. One resource, SR6 Saturday Sessions (Saturday School), is up and running. Students can find information signs and QR codes posted all around campus, or they can visit their grade level Google classroom for more information. Counseling will soon be announcing Extended Day opportunities for students to recover course credits. The information for these classes is coming soon.

Our annual “What I Wish My Parents Knew” event is coming soon (October 14th). Please see below for information about this powerful event. Our Wednesday College Series continues; updated information below. This weekly event is open to all students. Encourage your students to take advantage of these opportunities to visit with the featured colleges. And a reminder about The College Showcase, which will be hosted on October 15th in the SRHS gym.

Senior families: Is your student exploring the option of studying outside of the United States after graduation? Please contact the registrar's office as soon as possible. The post-graduation guide to the international studies process is available upon request at [email protected].

Access Your Student’s State Assessment Results - SDUSD
Parents and guardians can now access their student’s available 2025–26 electronic score reports through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Depending on the assessments the student completed during the 2025–26 school year, reports may be available for:

  • Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics—taken in grades 3–8 and 11
  • California Science Test (CAST)—taken in grades 5 and 8 and 11 at SRHS
  • California Alternate Assessments (CAA) for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and/or Science - taken in grade 11 at SRHS
  • Initial and Initial Alternate ELPAC —for newly identified English learners
  • Summative and Summative Alternate ELPAC—Spring 2026 scores available for English learners in grades K–12

These reports provide information about students' performance and progress toward California’s academic or English language proficiency standards. Results are released at different times throughout the year, so not all reports may appear at the same time.

Action for parents and guardians: Sign in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal  (https://powerschool.sandi.net/public/) to view your student’s available score reports.

To learn how to locate your student’s test scores, watch the one-minute video, How to View Score Reports in the PowerSchool Parent Portal

Falcon Shoutouts

Thank you to everyone who sent in good news this week. Below are two more Falcon Shoutouts. If you know of a student doing something worth celebrating, send a few sentences and a photo to [email protected]. No form and no special format needed.

Maja Belton Earns Her Girl Scout Gold Award

Maja spent her summer giving the Falcon Playhouse costume department a complete makeover. She led a team that emptied the costume shed, cleaned it, replaced the old broken shelving with new shelving, and returned 150 bins, each one clearly labeled so students can find what they need. Here's a picture of the shed after the makeover. Maja also built a system for checking costume bins out and back in, so the department stays organized long after her project is done. Her volunteers included friends, community adults, Falcon Playhouse parents and students, members of our football team, and students from Mira Mesa and Poway. Together they put in more than 120 hours. The project earned Maja her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting, and it will save future casts time and money getting ready for every production. Great job Maja!

Child Development Students Head Out to Their Internships

All 130 of our Child Development students start internships at the end of September, working as classroom assistants at neighboring elementary schools, including Hage, Dingeman, and Miramar Ranch, and at our own Little Falcons Preschool. It's been a busy month for the program. On September 2, students in the Education Pathway toured CSU San Marcos through a partnership between the university and San Diego Unified. And starting September 21, students have been carrying decorated "egg babies" to and from school in their own carriers, taking them home to practice the daily responsibilities of caring for a child. After weeks of learning how children develop and how to step in as a classroom assistant, our students are ready to put it into practice, and the elementary principals are already looking forward to another great year with our interns.

What I Wish My Parents Knew - Save the Date - Reminder

Please save the date for Wednesday, October 14, from 5:00–6:30 p.m. in the SRHS Library.

What I Wish My Parents Knew is an evening for parents and guardians to hear directly from SRHS students about what it’s like to be a teenager and navigate high school today. A panel of our students will share their perspectives, experiences, and insights with families.

More details will be shared as the event approaches.
