Parent Message 10-4-20

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope you are having a great Sunday evening. This past Friday, October 2nd, marked the end of the first half of quarter 1. Progress report 1 grades will be able to be viewed online via the PowerSchool Parent Portal on Friday, October 9th. On the update today I’ve included information about the grading periods, counseling updates, CSF membership, the Wednesday College Series and more. Here are the latest updates as of 10-4-20.

Grading Periods

Here is a Link: 2020-21 Grading Timeline to the grading periods for the 2020-21 school year. Final progress report 1 grades will be available to view on Friday, October 9th via the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

2nd Virtual Open House – Live or Pre-recorded?

Thank you to those of you who provided feedback for our Virtual Open House. While I didn’t get a large number of responses, some who did respond said they would prefer pre-recorded videos as compared to live Zoom meetings. Before we do our second Virtual Open House at the beginning of quarter 2, I’d like to hear from some more families. Please complete this Google Form: Virtual Open House Live or Pre-recorded (P) to share your input on whether you would prefer a live or pre-recorded 2nd Virtual Open House.

Counseling Updates

Seniors should "follow" their class Instagram page for up to date information @SRHSeniorvision_2021.

Emails were sent to parent emails regarding paperwork not picked up at Kickoff.  Please contact Sandy Kish at to get a copy of your preprinted K-12 and "unofficial transcript" for 10th-12th graders.

Seniors: College Application Support Labs

College Application Support Labs will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM, October 12th to November 18th.   Each Monday students will receive an email in their SCHOOL EMAIL account with the Zoom log-in information for that week.  They must use their student account to log into the Zoom College Application Labs.  The SRHS counselors will be available during the labs to answer application questions and review completed applications.  We highly recommend they have a counselor read over at least one of each type of application, i.e. CSU, UC, Common App, etc. prior to submitting applications.  If errors are made and found after an application has been submitted, it can be challenging to make corrections.

Please also remind your student about the support handouts on the Senior page of the counseling website to assist with their college application process.  We provide guides to help with completing the different types of applications, as well as directions for how to request recommendation letters and transcripts.

IMPORTANT: Please encourage your student to check their SCHOOL EMAIL account at least once a week so students can also receive important information directly from counseling.

CSF Membership

Our SRHS CSF membership drive is now underway! Deadline to apply is October 5, 2020. All qualifying members will be deemed ACTIVE for this semester only, due to COVID. Please see the SRHS Site for applications, updates, deadlines and Zoom meetings. Freshmen are not eligible to apply until February, with this semester's grades. Please save the following link for future reference:

2020-2021 Federal Impact Aid Survey

The 2020-2021 Federal Impact Aid Survey will be conducted on October 7, 2020.  This school year the survey will be distributed via the United States Postal Service (USPS).  A postage paid envelope will be included for survey return. Each year the district earns a significant amount of income from the Federal Impact Aid Survey.  It is important that all parents complete the survey by October 28, 2020.

Wednesday College Series

The Wednesday College Series this Wednesday, October 7th from 1-1:25pm will feature admissions counselors from Gettysburg College, Oregon State University and University of Florida.  To register for this meeting, please complete this Google Form: Wednesday College Series 2020-21.   Please do not register using your email, please use another email address. A zoom link will be emailed to you the morning of October 7th.

Picking up Textbooks or Classroom Materials

For students who still need to pick up textbooks or classroom materials, see this Link: Item Pick-up for the dates and the protocol.

Friday Night Lights for our Class of 2021

To honor this year’s seniors, we will shine our stadium lights every Friday starting at 7pm for exactly 20 minutes and 21 seconds in honor of the class of 2021. We know this is nowhere near the senior year you expected, but we want you to know we are thinking about you and want to celebrate your accomplishments in every way that we can.

That’s all for today. Go Falcons!
