Parent Message 11-21-21
Posted on 11/25/2021

Dear Falcon Families,

I am excited to announce that we received very positive reviews from our WASC Accreditation Visit this past week. It was genuinely a pleasure to showcase our school and share all of the great things we have to offer. The Committee was impressed with all of the staff, students and parents who participated and made some quality recommendations for us to continue to move forward and grow as a school. There is much to celebrate! Next week there is no school due to the Thanksgiving break. I hope every has a chance to relax and have some fun with friends and families during this time off. Below I’ve included information regarding the end of progress reporting period 2, the Wednesday College Series, COVID Testing next week, important safety updates that includes information for Winter athletes as well as vaccine information, and some counseling updates. Here are the latest updates as of 11-21-21.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Safety Reminders

See this Link: Safety Guideline Highlights 2021-22 for the highlights of the safety guidelines. Please click into the document and scroll to the bottom to the header that reads “Vaccine Information for Families.” In this section you can read all details about the vaccine mandate for students. The Link: COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs address most questions families may have. Additionally, Winter athletes, please be sure to see the Link: 2021-22 Athletics COVID Guidance. It is important for winter athletes to read the entire document. I want to highlight one section pertaining to indoor sports as there has been some confusion in this area:

On Monday, November 15th, CIF put out a memo that states: “Masking for San Diego County athletes during indoor play for any sport is not mandatory provided routine screening testing is conducted prior to competition to include practices. Testing will be required twice per week with negative test results within 24-48 hours prior to competition to ensure the greatest level of COVID transmission prevention can be achieved while addressing the unique nature of different sports competition schedules to include tournaments. This guidance does not prohibit athletes from wearing face coverings during indoor sports competitions or practices. Coaches, staff, and observers are required to continue wearing masks indoors during a competition or practice, as are players that are not actively participating in the sport.”

While CIF has put out this guidance, SDUSD has mandated a more restrictive policy that indoor athletes must wear masks while both practicing and competing in games. Until a plan has been put in place for all SDUSD high schools to have the capacity to test athletes onsite twice per week, the mask mandate will remain.

UC & CSU Application Deadlines

The UC application is due November 30th and many CSU schools (including SDSU) are also due on November 30th.  Please encourage your student not to wait until the last minute to submit their application, in case they need to reach someone in the admissions offices or there are technical issues. Please make sure your student has an SRHS counselor review their application carefully and resolve any issues before submitting their application. Once a student has submitted their first application they may not be able to make any changes and any corrections submitted after the fact are not guaranteed to be included in the application review. Important Note: Students should NOT request their transcript when submitting their CSU or UC applications. These will be requested in the future through their college portal and/or their personal email.

Senior Student Contact Information

During senior year and the college application process our registrar, Janay Lamar, may need to reach your senior student regarding transcript requests, issues with transcripts, or to discuss other important information regarding school items needed for the application process. She sends emails to their student email account, but it would be helpful to have their personal email address as well. Please encourage them to complete the Senior Contact Google Form that was sent to student email accounts on Tuesday, November 9th

SD Foundation Scholarships

The Common Scholarship Application will open Wednesday, December 1st. Click here to find scholarship flyers that may correspond to your students’ interests. There are also more than a dozen separate awards that are administered by The San Diego Foundation but not included in the Common Scholarship Application.

That’s all for this evening. I wish everyone and their families a Happy Thanksgiving.
