Parent Message 5-1-22
Posted on 05/01/2022

Dear Falcon Families,

Today is the first day of May, marking about 6 weeks until we finish the 2021-22 school year. I look forward to enjoying some of the fun events (and personally some of my favorite events) with our seniors such as prom and graduation. As I mentioned last week, with May comes a lot of testing. AP testing is taking place May 2nd – May 13th with makeup AP testing taking place May 16th – 20th. Following AP exams, we’ll have our CAASPP (math and English) testing for 11th graders May 23rd – 26th, CAST (science) testing for 12th graders May 23rd – 26th, then the CAST (science) exam for 11th graders June 1st and June 2nd. Good luck to all of our students on their exams this month. In today’s update, I’ve included the important dates for May, information about the SDUSD Level Up Summer Enrichment enrollment process, an important message regarding the Local Control Accountability Formula (LCFF) survey, and some counseling updates. Here are the latest updates as of 5-1-22.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

LCFF Data Collection via the PowerSchool Parent Portal

Each year the district is responsible for collecting information from our students’ families to support the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) process. The LCFF is hallmark legislation that fundamentally changed how all local educational agencies (LEAs) in the state are funded, how they are measured for results, and the services and supports they receive to allow all students to succeed to their greatest potential. This year, the California Department of Education is allowing districts to collect information now and it will be applied to the 2022 – 23 school year. SDUSD believes that starting now will reduce the burden of collecting information during the busy time of opening school in the Fall and will potentially yield more complete information that will increase the amount of funding that schools and the district receive from the state. To support the state’s process, San Diego Unified utilizes an online system accessed through the Parent Portal in Power School. In the portal, parents and families will be asked to complete a very short questionnaire that increases the district’s opportunity to receive funds from the state. The information is only collected for this process and will not be used for any other purpose. The online form is now available. Please complete the short survey ASAP by logging into Parent Portal. By completing the survey, you will not only be supporting the district’s efforts, but increasing the chances of Scripps Ranch High receiving more of this valuable funding. Thank you in advance for your support.

Counseling Updates

Counselor Availability during AP Testing

Counselors will assist with proctoring the AP exams this week. Therefore, it may take longer than usual to respond to emails and they may not be available for additional meetings

Free Mental Health Caregiver and Parent Workshop

“Decoding the Mental Health Messages of Children and Adolescents: A Webinar for Parents and Caregivers” hosted by the California School Counselor Association (CASC). Monday, May 9, 2022 from 4:00-5:30 P.M. Registration link and event flyer

Transcripts: Courses taken outside of the School District (SDUSD)

Please be aware that grades from other institutions outside of SDUSD authorized classes/programs will NOT be added to the student’s transcript at SRHS. Students taking these classes will get the recognition when they apply to college by adding the institution to their college application and including the course title and grade earned.

SDUSD classes and authorized programs (e.g., Level-up summer classes offered through our district) can go on the transcript per usual. Students may speak with a counselor if they have any questions.

SENIOR Updates (Class of 2022)

Seniors Admitted to a CSU or UC School: If your student has been admitted to a CSU or UC, please make sure they notify the registrar if the CSU or UC college is requesting a midyear transcript. This will prevent a delay in the transcript being sent. The email notification should be sent at the same time as the electronic Xello Transcript Request [email protected]

Students Admitted or waitlisted for SDSU (Re: Midyear Transcript Request): If your student has already emailed the registrar making her aware of their admittance into SDSU, requested their transcript in Xello, and see that Xello portal is marked 'sent' next to SDSU, they do not need to request to have their midyear transcript to sent again. Please be aware that SDSU may not update their portal for several weeks after a transcript is sent by the SRHS registrar.  As long as the transcript is sent prior to the deadline, it will be acknowledged by San Diego State University as being received on time.

Final Transcript Requests for Seniors: As students decide what their plans are for next year, they may need to request a final transcript sent off on their behalf once they have earned their diploma. Please click here for information to share with your student about requesting their Final Transcript.

That’s all for today. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,
