Parent Message 5-29-22
Posted on 05/30/2022

Dear Falcon Families,

I am excited to announce that Scripps Ranch High’s AFJROTC Unit CA-935 was officially announced as the #1 JROTC Unit in the San Diego Unified School District this year! Additionally, this week they were awarded the Distinguished Unit Award with merit, the highest award an AFJROTC unit can earn. We are so proud of them and all of their accomplishments. Congratulations to the cadets as well as MSgt. Toledo. On May 23rd, SDUSD sent out an update regarding the indoor masking mandate possibly returning to individual school sites. At this point, we are not there yet, but I’ll be sure to send notification if we end up being in the mandatory indoor masking parameters in the future. You can read the message in full below. In today’s update, I’ve included all of the important June dates, the schedule for our early out minimum day finals days, an exciting announcement about one of our own students being selected to the SDUSD school board, and more. See below for the latest updates as of 5-29-22.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Indoor Masking Update

On Monday, May 23rd this Link: SDUSD Indoor Mask Update was sent to staff and families detailing parameters for when indoor masking could return to individual school sites. As of today, Scripps Ranch High does not meet these parameters, so indoor masking is still optional. If we are notified that it becomes mandatory I will be sure to share that message out with everyone.

CAASPP Update for 11th and 12th Grade Families

We had a successful week of statewide testing! We appreciate all of the students that came to school prepared to show their knowledge on the various assessments. If your student was absent from any of the testing periods, we will be holding makeup sessions beginning Tuesday, May 31st and again Friday, June 3rd and will continue into the next week if needed. Students pulled from classes for makeups will be excused from their classes to finish the CAASPP and or CAST. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vice Principal, Amy Hines [email protected]

SDUSD Student Board Member Selection

Congratulations to our own Lea Nepomuceno who was elected to sit on the SDUSD School Board as a student representative for the 2022-23 school year. We are excited to have her represent our community and all of the students within SDUSD.

Option 1

There is a Sports Physical Event as Mira Mesa High School on June 4th from 12 – 1:30pm. Physicals are $25 and will clear student athletes for the 2022-23 sports seasons. Scripps Ranch High School will receive $15 for each sports physical.

Option 2

SDUSD, in partnership with UCSD, is offering $10 physicals to any athlete on Saturday, June 11th from 8am – 12pm at San Diego High School. See this Link: Physical Flyer for details.

Student Vaccine Update

This week, the SDUSD School Board voted to approve postponing the implementation of the student vaccine mandate as a condition of attending in-person learning and participation in extracurricular activities, for students within the designated grade levels or age groups as set forth by the California Department of Public Health, until the state proceeds but no earlier than July 2023. Additionally, the Board voted to approve reinstating a student vaccination mandate for July 2023 or later based on data and conditions at the time, which will be brought to the Board for review and action prior to implementation. See this Link: Student Vaccine Mandate for the board presentation.

Counseling Updates

Course Level Change Requests

From May 23rd-June 3rd, students will be able to review their course requests in PowerSchool. If a student would like to change the level of a core subject class, e.g., Social Studies, English, Math, Science, Language Other Than English-LOTE, or PE, they can make that request during this time. Counselors will be available to meet with students during lunch in front of the counseling office on May 23rd-26th and June 1st-3rd. Counselors will not be able to accept requests via email. Once a request is made, no additional follow-up is needed. If the counselor is able to accommodate the change, it will be visible at Kick-Off. Counselors will review ALL submissions and will make changes when possible. Electives are still tentative as we finalize schedules, therefore elective class change requests will be accepted at Kick-Off.

SRHS Summer School

This summer there are two sessions for students to remediate up to 4 semesters of courses (4 credits), 2 classes each session. Each session is 3 weeks long. Session 1 is June 21st- July 8th (July 4th is a holiday, so there is no school that day) and session 2 is July 11th – July 29th. School hours are 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. If a student only needs to make up one class, they will only need to attend school for the 2 hours their class is in session. Students who miss more than 2 days will be dropped from summer school.

School sites are still working with the district on finalizing summer school and scheduling students. By the end of this week, there will be an email notification sent to students who have already been signed up for summer school.

Level Up UC Scout Summer Classes

This is regarding the UC Scout AP courses being offered through the district Level Up Enrichment Summer Program.

The summer school office recently obtained UC SCOUT access codes and communicated those to families on May 21 and May 22. If a student does not receive communication at that time, it means they are on a waitlist. They had many more requests than access codes available. If your student receives an email with an access code, make sure they sign up in the time frame given in the message so they do not lose their spot. Students on the waitlist could still receive a code in the future if space opens up.

Summer Level-Up Opportunities

Click here to be directed to the district summer school website. If you scroll to the bottom of their webpage you will see listing information for the Level-Up Programs.

Courses taken outside of the School District (SDUSD)- Applies to courses taken while enrolled at SRHS

Please be aware that grades from other institutions outside of SDUSD authorized classes/programs will NOT be added to the student’s transcript at SRHS. Students taking these classes will get the recognition when they apply to college by adding the institution to their college application and including the course title and grade earned.

SDUSD classes and authorized programs (e.g., Level-up summer classes offered through our district) can go on the transcript per usual. Students may speak with a counselor if they have any questions.

SENIOR (Class of 2022)

Final Transcript Requests for Seniors: As students decide what their plans are for next year, they may need to request a final transcript sent on their behalf once they

have earned their diploma. Please click here for information to share with your student about requesting their Final Transcript. Once a student has submitted their request they will receive an auto-response confirming their form was received, they do not need to send a follow-up email.

That’s all for today. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday as well as the Memorial Day holiday tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D
