Dear Falcon Families,
It was great seeing and meeting many of you during Wednesday’s Open House. I hope you enjoyed the experience of being on campus and getting to meet your child’s teachers. We have an exciting week coming up with our Homecoming pep rally, game and Saturday Homecoming dance. We’re very fortunate this year to be able to give students a full Homecoming experience. We’re looking forward to having a lot of fun. In today’s update, I’ve included information regarding our Peer Tutoring Club, Wednesday College Series, the annual Federal Impact Aid Survey, and more. See below for the latest updates as of 9-18-22.
* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

We at Peer Tutoring Club hope you have been having a great first few weeks of school! Peer Tutoring is a student-led club at SRHS that provides free tutoring for students by students. Peer Tutoring will be starting on Monday, September 19th and from then on be in the library after school Monday - Friday from 3:40-4:40 pm. Students may drop in for tutoring or they can make an appointment with a tutor ahead of time though this google form. We ask students to arrive before 4pm so that we can match them with an available tutor for the day. We are also always looking for more wonderful tutors and encourage students to apply! Our website can be found on the SRHS site via the For Students tab, and the link is here: our website - as well.

Federal Impact Aid Survey
Impact Aid Funds are designated to assist school districts that lose tax revenue due to their enrollment of students from families who live or work on tax-exempt federal properties or are active-duty military personnel. SDUSD schools are heavily impacted with federally connected students. Impact Aid funds become part of the school system’s general operating budget and support instructional activities for all students. To qualify for Impact Aid funding, the U.S. Department of Education requires SDUSD to survey each student to determine eligibility. Federal Impact Aid Surveys will be mailed directly to families on or before October 5, 2022.
SDUSD asks all parents to complete the survey form to help us qualify for federal impact aid.
Free Online Tutoring
As an FYI, the State is offering FREE online tutoring services for students through the California Library system.
Counseling Updates
New! Weekly Counseling Email Updates for Students: To help keep our students informed of important information from counseling, counselors will be sending out a weekly email on Fridays to student email accounts. This is in addition to using the counseling website, the counseling Instagram page, student announcements and the info sent home through the Principal’s Message. The emails will come from our counseling secretary, Sandy Kish. Please encourage students to check their student email account at least once a week for important information sent from the school and the counseling office.
Seniors - Urgent Cannot Send Transcripts to Colleges: Currently, many senior student enrollment forms show that their parent/guardian does NOT give permission for the school to send letters of recommendation, transcripts, financial aid forms or class ranking for UC ELC eligibility. This means that we cannot submit items your student requests in the college application process. There is an email being sent to all students whose parents did not give this approval. The email will include a google form that can be completed if a parent would like to change the permission they previously marked as “No” under 32A on the enrollment form. Students should look for an email from Sandy Kish in their student email account.
Seniors - Resume, Senior Info, Sheet & Parent Brag Sheet: There was an email sent to all seniors on Wednesday, September 14th from Sandy Kish, that gives information about how to access the Senior Info Sheet, Parent Brag Sheet and how to create or upload their Resume into Xello. Students should NOT be adding colleges to Xello, should NOT be connecting their Xello account to Common App and should NOT be requesting letters of recommendation in Xello yet. If done incorrectly, their items may not be sent to their colleges. We will share details about the process we would like students to follow in their Senior Presentation on September 23rd in English Class.
Senior Presentation & College App Supports: The Senior Presentation will take place in English classes on Friday, September 23rd. When the presentations have been completed, students will also gain access to the electronic College Application Support Materials, which includes how to request Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation. On Sept 26th & 27th, students will be given an opportunity to sign up for a one-on-one meeting with their counselor to discuss post-secondary plans. Students will also be able to get assistance with college applications during the College Application Labs from October 12th – November 16th. College Application Labs will be on Mondays (2:38 P.M. - 4:15 P.M.) and Wednesdays (3:35 - 4:15 P.M.) in Room 405
UC Scout (Update): Our registrar, Janay Lamar, is waiting to receive the UC Scout grades earned through the Level Up Program. The anticipated arrival is mid-September. Families may sign this form and send the form directly to Ms. Lamar at [email protected] or stop by the counseling office during lunch to pick up a form. Once Ms. Lamar receives the official grades from the district, she will review the completed forms and will upload those students’ grades to transcripts. We do not automatically add the classes because we have students who do not want the grades included on their high school transcript. ONLY UC Scout classes taken through the district’s Level Up Program can be added to the transcript. If a student takes the class on their own it will not get added to the district transcript, but it can still be added to a student’s college application. Students are encouraged to SUBMIT THE FORM BY SEPTEMBER 22nd, especially seniors since these grades impact their GPA for Cal-Grants and college applications.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Sincerely,
Matt Lawson, Ed.D
Principal
