Dear Falcon Families,
Thank you to our ASB for hosting an exciting Club Rush Day for students this past Thursday. With over 50 clubs on campus, we had a huge turnout. I hope all students got a chance to see what our different clubs have to offer and were motivated to join at least one. Congratulations to our boys beach volleyball team who won the CIF championship this past Thursday defeating Torrey Pines in the finals. Go Falcons! Tuesday, November 1st begins the annual AFJROTC Holiday Canned Food Drive. Last year, our program raised over 25,000 pounds of cans for the San Diego Food Bank. We hope to beat that this year, so please donate if you can. In today’s update I’ve included important dates coming up for November, further details about the Canned Food Drive, the Wednesday College Series, and some counseling updates. See below for the latest updates as of 10-30-22.

Canned Food Drive - A Message from the SRHS AFJROTC Program
Hunger exists 365 days a year, not just during the holiday season. Due to our region’s high cost of living, tens of thousands of low-income families, including low-income military families, and fixed-income seniors rely on the Food Bank to put food on the table. Of the 350,000 people the Food Bank serves monthly, 39,000 are low-income military personnel and their dependents; 10,000 are fixed-income seniors; 76,000 live at or near the poverty level and receive assistance through our Emergency Food Assistance Program; and 2,800 are elementary school children living in poverty. SRHS AFJROTC will be hosting our annual Holiday Canned Food Drive which will run from 1 Nov to 1 Dec 2022. Canned food items can be brought to any teacher’s classroom that has a barrel or box in their room. All donations will be given to the San Diego Food Bank in where all food will stay in our county to help feed the less fortunate in our city. Let’s work together to end hunger all year long!
Wednesday College Series
The next Wednesday College Series will be held on November 2, 2022 and will feature a presentation on UCSD. For more information about this and other college preparation information, please visit the Scripps Ranch High School Foundation College Corner: https://srhsfoundation.org/college-corner
Counseling Updates
Grade Level Presentations (9th - 11th): On Friday, October 28th students in grades 9, 10 and 11 viewed their grade level counseling presentation in their English class. The presentation is now available on the counseling webpage under each grade level’s designated page for absent students and parents to view. In these presentations counselors share pertinent information for students based on their grade level. In addition to the presentation, each grade level will have a support packet posted on their class webpage. Counselors will go to all English classes for follow up questions (9th 10/31, 10th 11/4, 11th 11/8). There will also be a Zoom for parents to help answer questions after viewing the presentation and packet, Freshman (11/2, 4:30 PM), Sophomores (11/3, 4:30 PM), and Juniors (11/7, 4:30 PM). Zoom information can be found on your student’s grade level page.
College Application Labs: Please remind your senior they can get additional assistance with college applications during the College Application Labs. College Application Labs will be on Mondays (2:38 P.M. - 4:15 P.M.) and Wednesdays (3:35 - 4:15 P.M.) in Room 405. Students who are unable to attend labs for college application assistance can see their counselor at lunch to set up a different time that works.
That’s all for today. Have a happy Halloween!
Sincerely,
Matt Lawson, Ed.D
