Dear Falcon Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a great holiday season with your families. During this month we are finishing up the last few weeks of semester 1. Some of the big dates coming up are no school on January 16th for MLK Day and our semester 1 finals days on January 18th, 19th and 20th. We’ll work hard to finish out this semester strong and wrap up semester 1 with success. See below for the latest updates as of 1-8-23.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

What I Wish My Parents Knew Event

I am excited to announce that Scripps Ranch High, in association with the SRHS Foundation, will host our annual “What I Wish My Parents Knew” event on Monday, February 6th from 5 – 6:30pm in the SRHS Library. The event is a mental health and wellness resource fair as well as a venue for adults to understand the child perspective of pressure and difficulties that children face today. Each year this has been an extremely powerful night, with mental health and wellness organizations around the county sharing resources and important information. The event is highlighted by a student panel featuring our own SRHS students. During the student panel, SRHS students share the tough obstacles they face in today’s society and how that affects them mentally. It is one of the most memorable nights of the year so you don’t want to miss it. Please put this event on your calendar. The event is free and all families are welcomed to attend.

1/9 Late Start Modified Monday Schedule

This Monday, January 9th is a modified Monday. During this time, teachers will be either (1) offering retakes/remediation for students or (2) will be meeting with their fellow colleagues to collaborate on instructional practices. Those teachers who are offering remediation/retake opportunities will have communicated with their students. While school begins at 9:45am, campus will open at the standard 8am time for students who are scheduled with teachers for remediation/retakes. We encourage all students who have scheduled remediation/retake opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

Please mark on your calendars there will be no school Monday, January 16th due to the Martin Luther King holiday.

District Attendance Letter Clarification - Reminder

The letter emailed from SDUSD, titled “Attendance Matters,” is from the district. I understand there has been some confusion because the letter, when read initially, looks like a student has an attendance problem. To clarify, every student receives a letter, regardless if they have attendance issues or not. The district is sending out monthly communication to parents about each student’s attendance just to inform families. Evidence of an attendance problem would be indicated by the graph towards the bottom 3rd of the letter that compares your student to a “typical student” in SDUSD. These letters will continue to be sent monthly. As a school, we are sending more specific letters directly to families of only those students who have uncleared absences, tardies or truancies. These site letters will more specifically indicate if a student has attendance issues over a 3-week span.

Student Password Reset Update - Reminder

As indicated in the December 1, 2022 Superintendent email communication ‘San Diego Unified Incident’, SDUSD IT will be resetting passwords as a precaution for all students. Scripps Ranch High students’ passwords will be reset on January 30th and new passwords will be issued January 31st. We will print the new student passwords and deliver them to students during their first or second period classes on January 31st.
