Semester 2 Revisions to Attendance Policy

As we move into second semester, revisions have been made to our attendance policy to improve transparency and accountability to students. Students who receive 3 or more absences (A), tardies (T), or truancies (Z) in a three week span will continue to receive a printed notice of lunch detention; parents will also continue to receive the same notice via email. The message will now give students two dates to attend lunch detention and will describe next steps should they not attend their assigned lunch detention. Students who do not attend either dates will be pulled in for a one-hour after school detention with an Associate Principal. Students will be spoken to and a phone call home will be made to address next steps. Attendance in class is critical to student success, hence our goal to have all students present in all classes.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Our next Scripps Ranch High ELAC meeting will be held Thursday, February 23rd 5:30-6:30pm in the library. You do not need to be a parent of a student who is an English Learner to attend, all families are welcome. At our February meeting we will be helping parents login and navigate PowerSchool to view schedules, grades, and attendance. Please RSVP here to attend; food will be provided. The next district ELAC meeting (DELAC) is scheduled for February 2nd, 4:30-6:00pm via zoom; all are welcome. You can sign up here to receive the zoom link.

Counseling Updates

Counselor Availability: The articulation process for students selecting their classes next year starts tomorrow, January 23rd and runs through the beginning of March. During this time we are presenting and sharing information with students and then meeting one-on-one with all students (8th-11th grade). We appreciate your understanding that during this time it may take longer to respond to emails and phone calls, and we will not have much time for additional meetings.

Articulation 2023-24: Starting tomorrow, on January 23, students will begin the articulation process to choose their classes for next year. Students will be required to upload their course requests in their PowerSchool Student Portal AND submit an Articulation Card that will include their elective back up choices to their English teacher by Friday, February 3rd at 3:30 P.M. The articulation videos, articulation card, and student support document will be uploaded on the SRHS Counseling website on the grade level pages on January 24th. Students should also reference the course descriptions and recommended prerequisites for classes on the counseling website. Click here for details about the articulation process and important upcoming submission and meeting follow up dates (zoom and in person). There are zoom meetings offered for each grade level over the next two weeks, to help answer follow-up questions after students and parents have reviewed all the articulation materials and video. These times and dates are also listed on the articulation process page.

Extended Day Math Remediation: Our school will be offering Extended Day Courses for students who need to remediate a semester of Integrated Math 1, Advanced Integrated Math 1, Integrated Math 2, Advanced Integrated Math 2, Integrated Math 3, or Advanced Integrated Math 3. This is an option for students who have earned a D or F on their high school transcript, NOT students who earned a D or F progress grade. Grades earned can be confirmed by viewing the student transcript in the PowerSchool Student Portal. The benefit of Extended Day is students can remediate a course by attending 4 hours of class per week, for just 5 weeks (total of 20 hours). Classes will be offered twice a week from 4:00 P.M.- 6:00 P.M. between January 30th - March 3rd. IM1/AIM1 on Monday/Wednesday, IM2/AIM 2 on Monday/Thursday, IM3/AIM3 Tuesday/Thursday. The first 36 students to sign up for each course will be enrolled. Please forward this link to your student to complete the Math Extended Day Request Form. They must sign in with their sandi.net student account. We also sent this information directly to student emails in their Friday Counseling Updates from Sandy Kish.

MIdyear Transcript Requests: Students should not request midyear transcripts until after January 30th. If they have any extenuating circumstances prior to the midyear deadlines, please direct them to reach out to Ms. Lamar at [email protected]. If they applied to a college through the Common Application and already had an initial transcript sent, then they do NOT request a midyear transcript, a midyear transcript will automatically be sent to those colleges. Students should confirm how they applied to a college (via the Common Application website or a different application site) and the college’s application requirements, before determining if a midyear transcript needs to be requested in the future. All midyear transcripts besides the ones going to a Common Application School, will need to be requested by a student and we will send out more information about that process by January 30th.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
