Parent Message 2-19-23
Posted on 02/20/2023

Dear Falcon Families,

Congratulations to our girls water polo team who made it to the division 3 CIF semi-finals this past Monday. Even though they couldn’t get a win to get into the finals they still made us very proud. Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Basketball team who finished league play as undefeated Champions of the Western Division. This earned them a place in the CIF OPEN Division and an automatic qualification to State playoffs. While they couldn’t get a win on Saturday, they still have a chance at a state championship. Good luck girls! Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Basketball team who is looking for a division 2 CIF championship. They beat Rancho Bernardo on Friday to advance to the semi-finals this Wednesday vs. Otay Ranch. Congratulations to all of our Winter Sports teams on a fantastic season.

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend so far. I have a short update today which includes a few reminders. See below for the latest updates as of 2-19-23.

Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Event - Reminder

This message was shared with me by SDUSD school police. Even though it is being held at a church it is not a religious based event:

The San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) invites high school children and parents to join the screening of Maria Emeshkina Peek’s Documentary. The film is an insight into the world of online grooming and sextortion, a present day reality for 1 in 7 children online. See this ICAC Flyer for details.

Counseling Updates

Counselor Availability:  Counselors are currently meeting one-on-one with all students from 8th-11th grade. It will take us approximately 3.5 weeks to meet with our students. Counselors met with the current 9th graders this past week. They will meet with current 10th graders 2/21-2/24,  current 11th graders 2/28-3/3 and 8th graders 3/7-3/8. We appreciate your understanding that during this time it may take longer to respond to emails and phone calls, and we will not have much time for additional meetings.

2023 Summer School (Level Up): If your student needs to remediate a D or F grade earned on their high school transcript, please click here to access the request form. Only fill out the first page. The counselor will use the student transcript to select the correct courses on the second page. Once the form is completed, please have your student submit it to Sandy Kish in the counseling office. Details about dates and times can be found on the form. The priority deadline for requesting summer school is April 1st. The enrichment opportunities will be shared from the district in the spring. Click here for the district's Level Up website with links to information about all summer opportunities.

Midyear Transcript Requests:  Students who applied to a college through the Common Application and already had an initial transcript sent, do NOT need to request a midyear transcript, a midyear transcript was automatically sent to those colleges. All midyear transcripts besides the ones going to a Common Application School, will need to be requested by a student through their Xello account.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D
