Parent Message 3-19-23
Posted on 03/19/2023

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their weekend. As a reminder, there will be no school from March 27th to March 31st due to Spring Break. School will resume on Monday, April 3rd. I’d like to highlight two important items in today’s update: (1) CA Healthy Kids Survey and (2) the Mending Matters We Hear YOUth Report. The CA Healthy Kids Survey is a 45-minute survey that is a key data point we use to assess school culture and safety on campus. Traditionally, we have very low parent participation in the survey so the data assessment is not as helpful as it could be. If you can please take the 45-minutes to take the survey I would appreciate it. We refer to the survey often throughout the school year to assess where we are at as a school as well as how we can improve. The Mending Matters We Hear YOUth report is the first report of its kind this year and shares students’ day-to-day experiences and how they are best supported. The report and the accompanying video are very helpful to read to get a student/child perspective. Thank you for your time with these two items and please see below for the latest updates as of 3-19-23.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

March 20th Late Start Modified Monday Schedule

This Monday, March 20th is a modified Monday. During this time, teachers will be either (1) offering revision/reassessments for students or (2) will be meeting with their fellow colleagues to collaborate on instructional practices. Those teachers who are offering revision/reassessment opportunities will have communicated with their students. While school begins at 9:45am, campus will open at the standard 8am time for students who are scheduled with teachers for revision/reassessments. We encourage all students who have scheduled revision/reassessment opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

Mending Matters We Hear Youth Report

Mending Matters worked with Scripps Ranch High student L.I.F.E. Advisors to roll out the voluntary and anonymous We Hear YOUth survey earlier this school year. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about students’ day-to-day experiences and how they are best supported in order to enhance responsive mental health resources. Over 900 students responded to the survey. The L.I.F.E Advisors highlighted a few of those responses in a reflection video to support a healthy school culture. The purpose of the reflection video is to wrap the numbers in hope, support, and resources. Our goal is that students take away: (1) They are not alone, (2) there is support in their community, and (3) some ideas on how to start conversations about their wellness if and when they need support. Please view the full student response report document with the results of the survey.

Counseling Updates

CCAP Miramar Meeting (Mandatory): If your student missed the mandatory CCAP meeting on 3/14 or 3/15, then they will need to watch the recorded version once it is shared on the SRHS Counseling website. In the recording there are QR codes for forms that need to be completed. The recording should be available on the College Courses (Dual Enrollment) page by the end of next week.

2023 Summer School (Level Up): If your student needs to remediate a D or F grade earned on their high school transcript, please click here to access the request form. Only fill out the first page. The counselor will use the student transcript to select the correct courses on the second page. Once the form is completed, please have your student submit it to Sandy Kish in the counseling office. Details about dates and times can be found on the form. The priority deadline for requesting summer school is April 1st. The enrichment opportunities will be shared from the district in the spring. Click here for the district's Level Up website with links to information about all summer opportunities.

Purchase Your Tickets for “Anastasia” the Musical - Reminder

The SRHS Falcon Playhouse is back with their second show of the school year with their spring season show, "Anastasia" (book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynne Ahrens). Anastasia the musical, inspired by the Twentieth Century Fox Motion Picture, is a story that follows the grown up orphan girl, Anya. With no memory of her past, she is forced to desperately work for money in what used to be St. Petersburg, Russia, saving up for a one way trip to Paris. She doesn't know why she must go to Paris, but she has a hunch something or someone from her past is there. With rumors of the Grand Duchess Anastasia arising of her being alive when she was thought to be dead, her new friends, Dmitry and Vlad, help take her to Paris and take her on a journey to the past. Shows are March 23rd, 24th, and 25th!

With a cast and crew of over 80 students, everyone is working hard for opening night! One unique thing about Anastasia is the set; the show travels through many contrasting places, such as a train, ballroom, ballet, night club, etc., as well as two different countries. The set designed by Jay Butcher (sophomore) and Michael Chen (junior) is being constructed by student technicians. Along the technical side, Anastasia's costumes are beautiful! Involving royalty, the show calls for gorgeous ball gowns fit for a Russian dance. In addition, we will have a full house of K-8 students in the Scripps Ranch community coming to see the show! Tickets are on sale now! Here is the link to purchase tickets: https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/falconplayhouse/6825

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D
