Dear Falcon Families,

 

Congratulations to our Marching band on their first tournament of the season at Valhalla. They won 1st place in the 4A Division, 1st in High Auxiliary and 1st in High Percussion! Additionally, Congratulations to students Sofia Dills, Claire Buck, Samantha Baniqued, Kiyomi Whitman, Emile Thibault, Lauren Prochazka, Sammy Cook, Karina Ford, and Isabella Lastomirsky. Their photos were selected for the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) youth competition Myth and Magic. The photos are all currently hanging on the walls of the museum. Visit the SRHS FalconPride Instagram to see their photos. Thank you to the SRHS Foundation for partnering with Explore Solutions and hosting The College Showcase. Yesterday we had over 60 campuses featured in the quad that students were able to explore. A reminder that tomorrow, October 24th is a modified Monday schedule. School will begin at 9:45am but campus will still open at 8am to accommodate students coming to school for remediation/retakes. In today’s update I’ve included the important dates for October/November, details about this week’s Wednesday College Series, a reminder from SDUSD about Flu season, and some counseling updates. 10/24 Late Start Modified Monday Schedule

This Monday, October 24th is a modified Monday. During this time, teachers will be either (1) offering retakes/remediation for students or (2) will be meeting with their fellow colleagues to collaborate on instructional practices. Those teachers who are offering remediation/retake opportunities will have communicated with their students. While school begins at 9:45am, campus will open at the standard 8am time for students who are scheduled with teachers for remediation/retakes. We encourage all students who have scheduled remediation/retake opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

 

Wednesday College Series

The next Wednesday College Series will be held on October 26, 2022. Students are invited to come to the library at lunch from 1:05-1:35pm to visit with colleges. All grade levels are welcome to attend. Flu Season - from SDUSD

Multiple high schools have experienced high illness rates due to probable Influenza. So far COVID tests have been negative. Typical signs and symptoms include cough, sore throat, runny nose, fever, and other upper respiratory infection symptoms.

Below are recommendations to help prevent the spread

Get a flu shot

Stay home if you are sick

Wash hands frequently

Cover cough and sneeze

Rule out COVID - Take a COVID test!

Avoid close contact with ill persons

Masks can prevent many respiratory infections aside from COVID, like flu

Counseling Updates

Grade Level Presentations (9th - 11th): On October 28th during English class, students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will view their grade level counseling presentation. After the presentations are shown in classes, they will be posted on the counseling webpage under each grade level’s designated page for absent students and parents to view.  In these meetings counselors share pertinent information for students based on their grade level. In addition to the presentation, each grade level will have a support packet posted on their class webpage. There will also be a zoom for parents and students to answer questions after viewing the presentation and packet. Freshman (11/2, 4:30 PM), Sophomores (11/3, 4:30 PM), Juniors (11/7, 4:30 PM) The Zoom meeting information will be shared in a future message.

College Application Labs: Please remind your senior they can get additional assistance with college applications during the College Application Labs. College Application Labs will be on Mondays (2:38 P.M. - 4:15 P.M.) and Wednesdays (3:35 - 4:15 P.M.) in Room 405. Students who are unable to attend labs for college application assistance can see their counselor at lunch to set up a different time that works.

REPEAT INFORMATION:

Xello Webinar (Recording): Last week CCTE hosted a webinar for families to learn more about Xello. The Xello program supports student college, and career exploration. The session shared information about developing future goals and plans, creating a resume and how to develop a portfolio. As well as, showing how to use the goals and plans post high school features, how to navigate the career and college searches and how to create a professional portfolio. Please click here to see the recorded session. *Reminder ALL students already have a Xello account through the district and they access it by signing in through Clever.com Click here for further directions on the counseling website.

Senior Transcript Requests: If your students is applying to UCs/CSUs, their initial transcript is not required unless they have an extenuating circumstance. In that case, they should reach out to the registrar, Ms. Lamar at [email protected] prior to requesting their transcript.

Transcript Message on Xello: When students request a transcript, Xello will show the following message, "Your high school is processing your transcript. If this status has not changed in 2 days, contact your school counselor." Please disregard that general message from Xello, we require up to two weeks to send a transcript.
