Posted on 10/10/2022

Dear Falcon Families,

I want to say a big thank you to our AFJROTC senior staff who made a great presentation explaining their goals for this school year. I look forward to witnessing them meet those goals and continuing to be the best program in the nation. A reminder that this Monday school will begin at 9:45am. The campus will be open at 8am for students who are scheduled for retakes/remediation with their teacher. In today’s update, I’ve included information about when progress report 1 grades will be released via PowerSchool, the Wednesday College Series, the College Showcase, and some counseling updates. See below for the latest updates as of 10-9-22.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Federal Impact Aid Survey

Impact Aid Funds are designated to assist school districts that lose tax revenue due to their enrollment of students from families who live or work on tax-exempt federal properties or are active-duty military personnel. SDUSD schools are heavily impacted with federally connected students. Impact Aid funds become part of the school system’s general operating budget and support instructional activities for all students. To qualify for Impact Aid funding, the U.S. Department of Education requires SDUSD to survey each student to determine eligibility. Due to printing delays, Federal Impact Aid Surveys will now be mailed directly to families on or before October 19, 2022. SDUSD asks all parents to complete the survey form to help us qualify for federal impact aid.

Counseling Updates

College Application Labs: Starting this Wednesday, October 12th thru Wednesday, November 16th, students will be able to get additional assistance with college applications during the College Application Labs. College Application Labs will be on Mondays (2:38 P.M. - 4:15 P.M.) and Wednesdays (3:35 - 4:15 P.M.) in Room 405. Students who are unable to attend labs for college application assistance can see their counselor at lunch to set up a different time that works.

Senior Transcript Requests: If your students is applying to UCs/CSUs, their initial transcript is not required unless they have an extenuating circumstance. In that case, they should reach out to the registrar, Ms. Lamar at [email protected] prior to requesting their transcript. When students do need to request a transcript, Xello will show the following message, "Your high school is processing your transcript. If this status has not changed in 2 days, contact your school counselor." Please disregard that general message from Xello, we require up to two weeks to send a transcript.

Senior Students Who Will Not Have a Transcript Sent to Colleges: The form for senior families to change their choice of 32A from 'no' to 'yes' is closed as of September 30, 2022. You will need to contact the registrar at [email protected] to change your option. Students whose parents said 'no' for question 32A were notified through their student email.  The email came from our counseling secretary, Sandy Kish.

UC Scout Grades: All UC Scout grades have been uploaded. Please have your student contact the registrar, Ms. Lamar, at [email protected] with any questions they may have pertaining to UC Scout grades for the summer of 2022-2023.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D
