Dear Falcon Families,

I want to open by saying a huge thank you to everyone for the support this community gives to the staff, students, and school as a whole. It’s a privilege to be the principal of this school and get the chance to serve our students and families. Our SRHS foundation has been immensely supportive, allowing us to purchase education essentials such as science lab supplies, calculators, curriculum for PE and English, supplies for art, and so much more. Our students continue to excel year after year and do extraordinary things, which could not happen without the support you give. I am very grateful to be a part of this community. On this Thanksgiving holiday, I hope you have time to relax, reflect, and have fun with your friends and families.

I’m proud to announce a number of our Fall sports teams/athletes had very successful seasons and will be moving on to compete for a state title. Congratulations to the Lady Falcons Cross Country team who won the CIF D2 Championship last weekend at Morley Field. They move on to compete in the state championships next week.  Additionally, congratulations to Ken Belt and Oliver Cannon who will be moving on to compete in the cross country state individual championship. Congratulations to golfer Kiana Glosner who shot an 81 and finished T35 in the state CIF finals this past week.

Last weekend, our SRHS Falcon Corps and Colorguard continued their run at the state championship finishing 2nd in 4A with the Colorguard winning 4A overall. Their score of 87.4 earned them a spot in this weekend’s state finals at Huntington Beach where the top 16 bands will compete for overall state champion. I am writing this on Friday so I do not yet know if they have won the title. Good luck to them as they try to bring home the state title.

I will be off next week so this message will cover the week of November 28th. My next parent message will be sent Sunday, December 4th. Again, I wish you all a fun and restful Thanksgiving break. See below for the latest updates as of 11-20-22.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

These grades are a formative progress report and do not represent a final summative semester grade. The final summative grading period for semester 1 closes on January 20th.

Attendance Letters to Families

Families of SRHS students already receive a letter home from the school (SRHS Example Letter) every three weeks if their student has a combination of 3 or more absences (A’s), tardies (T’s), or truancies (Z’s) indicating they have been assigned lunch detention. Starting Monday, families with active email accounts will also receive a Monthly Attendance Letter from the district showing students’ current attendance rate compared to the average attendance rate. The overall goal of both letters is to support students and encourage them to attend class on time, each day.

Wednesday College Series

The next Wednesday College Series will be held on November 30, 2022, featuring admissions counselors from Leeds Beckett University, Sonoma State University and the United States Marines.  For more information about this and other college preparation information, please visit the Scripps Ranch High School Foundation College Corner: https://srhsfoundation.org/college-corner

It is highly recommended that families complete the application prior to January 1st. CSU and UC Deadline November 30th: If your student is planning to apply to any CSU or UC schools this fall, make sure they are working on their applications now. Also, please encourage your students to have their applications reviewed by one of the counselors prior to submitting. It is not uncommon to see errors in how students have input their academic information and corrections can be difficult to make, or not even accepted, once an application has been submitted. *Note: Students should NOT request transcripts for CSU or UC schools at this time. They are not typically used in the initial application process. Students can request the transcript once the college has indicated it is needed.

That’s all for today. I hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving break!

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D
