Dear Falcon Families,
We had an amazing turnout at our Winter Formal last Saturday night! I’m glad so many students had a lot of fun at the Birch Aquarium. Congratulations to our Girl’s Water Polo team who won a central league co-championship and earned a second seed in the division 3 playoffs. Nice work girls! This week, our remaining winter sports teams will be competing in the CIF playoffs. Good luck to our teams as they try to bring home a CIF Championship. In today’s update, I’ve included information about the WACAC College Fair that will take place on campus, an event from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, family informational workshops hosted by SDUSD, and more. See below for the latest updates as of 2-12-23.

Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Event
This message was shared with me by SDUSD school police. Even though it is being held at a church it is not a religious based event:
The San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) invites high school children and parents to join the screening of Maria Emeshkina Peek’s Documentary. The film is an insight into the world of online grooming and sextortion, a present day reality for 1 in 7 children online. See this ICAC Flyer for details.
IEP Parent Virtual Institute - from SDUSD
See the following flyers for details: IPI Flyer; SDUSD Spanish IPI Flyer.
Attendance Letter Update - from SDUSD
SDUSD has revised their attendance letters to better inform families of their child’s attendance counts. The new letter will show how many excused absences and how many unexcused absences your child has for the year. SDUSD will send the letters during the week of February 20th and again in April.
Family Engagement Workshops - from SDUSD
SDUSD will be hosting two Family Engagement workshops to provide details for the Level Up Summer 2023 Academic Program. See the following flyers for details and registration: English or Spanish. The dates and times are:
Monday, February 13th 5:30-6:30 pm Zoom
Thursday, February 16th 10am-11:00am Zoom
Counseling Updates
Counselor Availability: Starting tomorrow, Monday, February 13th, counselors will be meeting one-on-one with all students from 8th-11th grade. It will take us approximately 3.5 weeks to meet with our students. Counselors will be meeting with the current 9th graders 2/13-2/16, current 10th graders 2/21-2/24, current 11th graders 2/28-3/3 and 8th graders 3/7-3/8. We appreciate your understanding that during this time it may take longer to respond to emails and phone calls, and we will not have much time for additional meetings.
2023 Summer School (Level Up): If your student needs to remediate a D or F grade earned on their high school transcript, please click here to access the request form. Only fill out the first page. The counselor will use the student transcript to select the correct courses on the second page. Once the form is completed, please have your student submit it to Sandy Kish in the counseling office. Details about dates and times can be found on the form. The priority deadline for requesting summer school is April 1st. The enrichment opportunities will be shared from the district in the spring. Click here for the district's Level Up website with links to information about all summer opportunities.
Midyear Transcript Requests: Students who applied to a college through the Common Application and already had an initial transcript sent, do NOT need to request a midyear transcript, a midyear transcript was automatically sent to those colleges. All midyear transcripts besides the ones going to a Common Application School, will need to be requested by a student through their Xello account.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Sincerely,
Matt Lawson, Ed.D
Principal
