Counseling Updates
2023 Summer School (Level Up): The umbrella term for all summer options provided by the district is called “Level Up”. This includes remediation of classes not passed and classes that can be taken for enrichment. If your student needs to remediate a D or F grade earned on their high school transcript, please click here to access the request form. Only fill out the first page. The counselor will use the student transcript to select the correct courses on the second page. Once the form is completed, please have your student submit it to Sandy Kish in the counseling office. Details about dates and times can be found on the form. The priority deadline for requesting summer school is April 1st. The enrichment opportunities will be shared from the district in the spring. Click here for the district's Level Up website with links to information about all summer opportunities.
Counselor Availability: The articulation process started on January 23rd and runs through the beginning of March. During this time we are presenting and sharing information with students, reviewing course requests entered into PowerSchool and then meeting one-on-one with all students (8th-11th grade). We appreciate your understanding that during this time it may take longer to respond to emails and phone calls, and we will not have much time for additional meetings.
Articulation 2023-2024: Articulation cards and online requests were due this past Friday, Feb 3rd. Counselors will be following up with all students through one on one meetings during English class. If there were any errors made while inputting requests that need to be corrected, or a student needs to make an adjustment to their course requests, it can be done in their meeting. It is very important that students carefully consider what they have chosen and are confident they have picked the schedule they want for next year by the time they have completed their meeting with their counselor. We create the master schedule based on the student selection of classes now, so future changes cannot be guaranteed. Counselors will be meeting with the current 9th graders 2/13-2/16, current 10th graders 2/21-2/24 and current 11th graders 2/28-3/3.
Midyear Transcript Requests: Students should confirm how they applied to a college (via the Common Application website or a different application site) and the college’s application requirements, before determining if a midyear transcript is needed. Students who applied to a college through the Common Application and already had an initial transcript sent, do NOT need to request a midyear transcript, a midyear transcript will automatically be sent to those colleges by February 10th. All midyear transcripts besides the ones going to a Common Application School, will need to be requested by a student through their Xello account.
Volunteers Needed!: Miramar Elementary School is looking for volunteers for their Miramar Elementary School Family Science Nights on February 7th and March 7th. Click here for more information.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Sincerely,
Matt Lawson, Ed.D
Principal
