May 15th Late Start Modified Monday Schedule

This Monday, May 15th is a modified Monday. During this time, teachers will be either (1) offering revision/reassessments for students or (2) will be meeting with their fellow colleagues to collaborate on instructional practices. Those teachers who are offering revision/reassessment opportunities will have communicated with their students. While school begins at 9:45am, campus will open at the standard 8am time for students who are scheduled with teachers for revision/reassessments. We encourage all students who have scheduled revision/reassessment opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

Substitute Associate Principal

Associate Principal Amy Hines (students with last names P - Z) will be out on medical leave until June 5th. For families that need assistance, please contact our substitute Associate Principal Noelle Yates at [email protected].

Next Year’s Bell Schedule

I’m excited to share that next year we will have a new bell schedule. School will begin at 8:35am and end at 3:23pm. Additionally, our Modified Mondays will be traditional early out minimum days, beginning at 8:35am with school ending at 2:23pm. We are hoping this allows more students to take advantage of the scheduled time for revision/reassessment opportunities. See the following link: Bell Schedule 2023-24 for a draft of our tentative important dates and further details about class start and end times.

Future Athletes for the 2023-24 School Year Important Updates - Reminder

$10 Athletic Physicals: Our district has partnered with UCSD to create a voluntary/optional opportunity for your potential student athletes to receive a $10 athletic physical at San Diego High School on Saturday, June 10th from 8am-12pm. The $10 athletic physical opportunity is for any student that will be trying out for a CIF sport. The opportunity is also available for all sideline and competition cheerleaders. Flyer

Free Heart Screenings: New this year, UCSD has partnered with the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation and they will be providing free heart screenings to students ages 12-25 from 8:30am-1:30pm. You will see that information also included on the flyer.

Physicals for 2023-24 Eligibility: 2023-24 athletic physical packets will be posted to athleticclearance.com on Monday, June 5, 2023.  For the 2023-24 school year, all physicals will need to be completed after that date to be covered for the entirety of the 2023-24 school year.

CAASPP UPDATE - Reminder

As a reminder, CAASPP testing will take place the week of Monday, May 22, through Thursday, May 25. These days will be block schedule with no advisory period. All Juniors taking the CAASPP must bring their fully charged district-issued computers; they cannot use personal laptops for the state test. Students may use their personal headphones and if they do not have them we will issue them for use on the test. All students are required to be at school during the testing week, as regular instruction will take place when students are not directly involved in testing. This test is important, as it is one of the few standardized tests administered statewide, and provides data about our school to the public. For example, our ranking as a top academic school is partially based on the results of the CAASPP. If we want to continue to have a reputation for being a top-ranked school, we need students to do their best on the test. In addition to providing data about the school, individual results are also available to each student from the state (once the tests are scored and posted). Therefore, the CAASPP is an excellent tool to diagnose where a student’s strengths and areas of need may be in math, English, and science. Any specific questions about CAASPP testing please contact Associate Principal, Ashley Gay [email protected].
