Parent Message 5-22-22
Posted on 05/23/2022

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday. I want to remind you that next Friday, May 27th and Monday, May 30th there is no school due to the Memorial Day Holiday. School will resume on Tuesday May 31st. I am excited to announce that our AFJROTC program, Unit CA-935, received an “Exceeds Standards” as a result of their 3-year evaluation. Congratulations to them and MSgt. Toledo for their hard work and dedication to the school and community. Next week, students will be able to review their course requests for the 2022-23 school year in PowerSchool. If a student would like to request a level change for a core academic class, they may do so at that time. See below under “counseling updates” for the details. I also want to remind you that CAASPP testing for 11th and 12th graders begins this week. Please make sure students bring their district issued Chromebook as the test can only be accessed from a special secure browser. In today’s update, I’ve included information regarding the graduation ceremony, the SDUSD student board member elections (SRHS has 2 students running), a summer L.I.F.E camp opportunity, and more. See below for the latest updates as of 5-22-22.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Upcoming Calendar Events for May

5/23 – 5/26: CAASPP Testing (11th and 12th graders only)

5/27 & 5/30: No School due to the Memorial Day Holiday

SRHS Unit CA-935th Continues to Excel

I am excited to announce that Scripps Ranch High’s Air Force Junior ROTC instructors and cadets earned an overall unit assessment score of “Exceeds Standards” on their 3-year comprehensive review. This rating is the highest rating attainable.  MSgt. Toledo, along with the cadets of Unit CA-935, have created a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with an excellent community outreach effort.  The program continues to make a positive impact on the school and the community. We are very proud of them.

CAASPP Update for 11th and 12th Grade Families - Reminder

Statewide Testing week will begin on Monday, May 23rd through Thursday, May 26th with 4 block days in a row with no advisory for students in 11th taking English and Math and 12th graders taking Science (11th grade will test in science the following week during regular block schedule). It is very important that all students come to school with their fully charged district issued Chromebooks and headphones for use during testing. The secure browser for testing is only accessible on district computers. If students are absent, they will begin makeup testing the following week beginning Tuesday, May 31st. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring your student is on time and ready for testing throughout the week. As stated in a previous email, the data that comes from this test is important, as it is one of the few standardized tests administered statewide, and provides data about our school to the public and individual results for your student.

Seniors enrolled in Miramar College English classes will be taking the CAST assessment on Thursday, May 26th during period 2. All students were notified by Vice Principal, Amy Hines via their student email.

SRHS Foundation Board Needs Your Help! - Reminder

The SRHS Foundation Board has many open positions and needs your help!  This can be a great way to meet new people and get involved on campus while helping our kids. To get more information regarding open positions, please contact SRHS Foundation Board President, Richard Lawson, at [email protected].

How to Complete the Online LCFF Data Collection Form - Reminder

Every year we are required by the State of California to collect data from our families.  This data helps to determine our Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) funding from the state.  It is critical that we collect this data from every family to ensure our school receives all the state funding to which it is entitled. It will not affect your child receiving free meals at school as all children will have free access to meals this school year. See this Link: How to Complete the LCFF Data Collection Form for explicit directions on how to complete the form via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. We are asking families to complete this form by May 25th.

SRHS Library Closure - Reminder

The SRHS library will be closed for CAASSP testing from May 23rd to May 26th. There will be no access to printing at the library during these dates.

Athletic Physicals - Reminder

SDUSD, in partnership with UCSD, is offering $10 physicals to any athlete on Saturday, June 11th from 8am – 12pm at San Diego High School. See this Link: Physical Flyer for details.

Counseling Updates

Course Level Change Requests

From May 23rd-June 3rd, students will be able to

review their course requests in PowerSchool. If a student would like to change the level of a core subject class, e.g., Social Studies, English, Math, Science, Language Other Than English-LOTE, or PE, they can make that request during this time. Counselors will be available to meet with students during lunch in front of the counseling office on May 23rd-26th and June 1st-3rd. Counselors will not be able to accept requests via email. Once a request is made, no additional follow-up is needed. If the counselor is able to accommodate the change, it will be visible at Kick-Off. Counselors will review ALL submissions and will make changes when possible. Electives are still tentative as we finalize schedules, therefore elective class change requests will be accepted at Kick-Off.

Courses taken outside of the School District (SDUSD)- Applies to courses taken while enrolled at SRHS

Please be aware that grades from other institutions outside of SDUSD authorized classes/programs will NOT be added to the student’s transcript at SRHS. Students taking these classes will get the recognition when they apply to college by adding the institution to their college application and including the course title and grade earned.

SDUSD classes and authorized programs (e.g., Level-up summer classes offered through our district) can go on the transcript per usual.

Students may speak with a counselor if they have any questions.

Summer School

Click here to be directed to the district summer school website. If you scroll to the bottom of their webpage you will see listing information for the Level-Up Programs.

Level Up UC Scout Summer Classes

This is regarding the UC Scout AP courses being offered through the district Level Up Enrichment Summer Program.

The summer school office recently obtained UC SCOUT access codes and will be communicating those to families May 21 and May 22. If you do not receive communication at that time, it means you are on a waitlist. They had many more requests than access codes available. If your student receives an email with an access code, make sure they sign up in the time frame given in the message so they do not lose their spot.

SENIOR (Class of 2022)

Final Transcript Requests for Seniors: As students decide what their plans are for next year, they may need to request a final transcript sent on their behalf once they

have earned their diploma. Please click here for information to share with your student about requesting their Final Transcript. Once a student has submitted their request they will receive an auto-response confirming their form was received, they do not need to send a follow-up email.

That’s all for today. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
