SRSH Update 8-9-2020
Posted on 08/09/2020

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope you and your families are continuing to enjoy a restful summer. This will be a short update as I have not received much new information since my last update on July 31st. It is my understanding SDUSD is set to provide some additional updates on the plan for the 2020-21 school year on Monday, August 10th. With the fluid situation sometimes these planned updates do get delayed, so I will be sure to send out the latest information once I have it.

Below are the latest updates as of 8-9-20

PowerSchool Update

PowerSchool has now been updated for the 2020-21 school year. All families (including new enrollees and incoming 9thgraders) should now be receiving my weekly updates sent to the first email address listed in their child’s PowerSchool account. If you are not receiving these updates, please contact our site tech, Eunice Murphy, at who can work to add or unblock your email.

Yearbook Update

Yearbooks have now been delivered to campus and we are working on a plan to distribute them this month. At this time, we are thinking of adding a station to our Kickoff event so families can come at one time and pick up their items.

Currently, Kickoff is scheduled for August 20, 21, and 24th. We will do our best to stick with these dates, but, there is a chance these dates will need to be pushed back a week based on the details released for the new school year. Depending on the details, we want to be sure we can finalize student schedules in PowerSchool by the time Kickoff begins. The important part is to make sure students can pick up their correct textbooks so we need to finalize the schedules before we can have our Kickoff event. I am hopeful we can stick with our original dates. We are currently working on organizing our textbooks in a way that will make them easily distributed in a drive-thru type format. More specific details to be sent soon.

In case you missed my update on July 31st, here is a summary of the online guidelines for the 2020-21 school year:

San Diego Unified will open the school year Aug. 31 with the new online education initiative for

students that is as close as possible to a pre-COVID classroom experience, including:

  • A full school day with customized learning experiences for each K-12 student.
  • All students will have daily, live interaction with their teachers via video conferencing.
  • Custom learning experiences will be based on student needs and will include daily live, online instruction (up to three hours), independent learning (at least two hours), working with other students in small groups or participating in educator office hours (at least one hour).
  • Students will receive grades to measure their progress.
  • Educational Platforms will be limited to teachers using either Google Classroom or Canvas.
  • Teachers and non-classroom educators will work a full, standard workday.
  • Educators will hold office hours, organize small-group instruction and provide students with feedback on their learning.
  • All students will receive a district Chromebook to use for the 2020-21 school year. – we plan to distribute these Chromebooks at Kickoff.

The district will continue working to bring all students back to campus as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so.

That is all for today. Keep an eye out for new details for the upcoming school year to be released on or close to August 10th
