SRHS Updates 7-31-2020
Posted on 08/03/2020

Dear Falcon Families,

I am excited to announce that at Tuesday’s school board meeting, I was fortunate enough to be named as the official principal of Scripps Ranch High School. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity and will continue to do the best I can to support all students and families. These past 5 years serving as the Vice Principal at SRHS has been a career highlight of mine and I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve the school in this new role. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special community. I truly appreciate it.

For the weekly update, I am sending my update today since PowerSchool will be closed this weekend while it updates for the new year. I am off-calendar starting at the end of the day today and will return to work August 10th. If important updates are released during that time, I will be sure to share them with the community. Please see below for the latest updates as of 7-31-20.

Yearbooks

Yearbooks were delivered to campus on Monday, July 27th and are being stored in a secure location. Currently, all staff members are off-calendar so we will wait until mid-August once office staff return to set up a day to distribute yearbooks. Yearbooks will be distributed in a drive-thru type format similar to how we collected textbooks last year. More specific details will be sent out at a later date.

Online Guidelines for the 2020-21 School Year

Just last night some of the online guidelines for the 2020-21 school year were released. Please click this link to see the press release. Here is a summary of the details:

San Diego Unified will open the school year Aug. 31 with the new online education initiative for students that is as close as possible to a pre-COVID classroom experience, including:

  • A six-hour school day with customized learning experiences for each K-12 student.
  • All students will have daily, live interaction with their teachers via video conferencing.
  • Custom learning experiences will be based on student needs and will include daily live, online instruction (up to three hours), independent learning (at least two hours), working with other students in small groups or participating in educator office hours (at least one hour).
  • Students will receive grades to measure their progress.
  • Educational Platforms will be limited to teachers using either Google Classroom or Canvas.
  • Teachers and non-classroom educators will work a full, standard workday.
  • Educators will hold office hours, organize small-group instruction and provide students with feedback on their learning.

The district will continue working to bring all students back to campus as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so.

Additional details for the online learning plan will be released on August 10th. These details will include items such as our daily bell schedule so students know what to expect on a daily basis. I will send these details as soon as I have them.

That is all the information I have for today. I hope students and families are continuing to enjoy your summer as well as staying safe and healthy. Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
