SRHS Weekly Update as of 10-18-20

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope you and your families are continuing to do well. This Monday, October 19th, doctors from the University of California, San Diego have offered to virtually come to Scripps Ranch High to give a presentation to students about self-care, anxiety, depression and teen pressures. They will host this session on Zoom at 1:30pm for all students who would like to attend. Information about how to sign up will be in the message below. Additionally, I have provided updates on peer tutoring, the 2020-21 yearbook, the Wednesday College Series, and more. Here are the latest updates as of 10-18-20

UCSD Mental Health Series

On Monday, October 19th at 1:30pm doctors from the University of California, San Diego will be virtually coming to SRHS to give a presentation to students on self-care, depression, anxiety and teen pressures. For students interesting in attending, complete this Google Form: UCSD Mental Health Presentation Invite to sign up. Students will receive the Zoom information on Monday morning.

Teachers Who May Have Sudden Absences

If teachers have a sudden absence for any reason (either illness or tech issues), teachers have posted on their Learning Management System (LMS) directions to follow. If a student logs into a Zoom session and the teacher is not in attendance, students should (1) wait for 10 minutes, (2) look on the teacher’s LMS for directions, and (3) complete the asynchronous work that the teacher has posted. If questions arise during this process students should email their teacher.

Peer Tutoring

If your child would like to request a peer tutor, he or she should complete this Google Form: After completion of the Google Form, your child will receive a code for the daily Zoom tutoring sessions.

Student Standouts

Do you know a student that has gone above and beyond in the community, in any way? ASB is recognizing students via their weekly “Student Standout” posts on the ASB Instagram, and are asking for more nominations because they know we have so many extraordinary students at SRHS! If you would like to nominate someone (your child or someone you know) go to and fill out the quick google form. Our ASB Elections Committee has been working hard on this project and would greatly appreciate your support, thank you!

Wednesday College Series

The Wednesday College Series this Wednesday, October 21st from 1-1:25pm will feature admission counselors from Pepperdine University, Purdue University and The Ohio State University.  To register for this meeting, please complete this Google Form: Wednesday College Series 2020-21. Please do not register using your email, please use another email address. A zoom link will be emailed to you the morning of October 21st.

Counseling Updates

Contacting Counselors-  The best way to reach a counselor is through email, from there a phone or zoom meeting can also be scheduled if needed.

Morrill (A-Dia),  Estrada (Dib-Ja),  McDonald (Jb-More),  Hatfield (Morf-Sel),  Johnson (Sem-Z)

College Application Assistance Labs (10/12 - 11/18) - Counselors are offering College Application Assistance Labs (10/12 - 11/18) on Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM on Zoom.  Each Monday seniors will receive an email with the Zoom information for that week in their student email account. Counselors will answer general questions and be available to meet one-on-one with students to review their completed application or answer personal questions.

Financial AidThis past week, students were given an opportunity to register for webinars from Cal-SOAP to assist with understanding the FAFSA and get support with the application.  If a student missed the ones advertised, they can still log on to the Cal-SOAP website and register for a future presentation. The Cal-SOAP website is a great resource to learn more about Financial Aid and have questions answered regarding the FAFSA application.

Senior Meetings – The designated time for senior one-on-one meetings is now over.  When requested, counselors will still schedule meetings individually with students who missed their meeting or did not originally sign-up.  Counselors will also do follow-up meetings when needed. We do not expect students to miss class for these meetings, we will continue to try to schedule when the students are not in an assigned course.

Picking up Textbooks or Classroom Materials

For students who still need to pick up textbooks or classroom materials, see this Link: Item Pick-up for the dates and the protocol.

That is all for today. Have a great week!
