SRHS Weekly Update as of 10-25-20

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope you are having a nice Sunday evening and have enjoyed your weekend. This week there was some important information that came out about the district’s grading policy as well as the phases for re-opening. I sent the info on the phases for re-opening on Thursday, October 22nd but have included it again here to make sure you have everything in one place. Here are the latest updates as of 10-25-20.

Quarter 1 Ends Friday, October 30th

This week is the final week for quarter 1. As a reminder, here is a Link: 2020-21 Grading Timeline to the grading periods for the 2020-21 school year. Final Quarter 1 grades will be available to view on Friday, November 6th via the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Updated Grading Policy

On October 13th the SDUSD School Board voted to adopt a Standards Based Grading Policy. The policy will be implemented over a 2-year period. For this year, beginning Quarter 2, teachers will be expected to (1) remove non-academic factors from academic grades and (2) provide opportunities for retakes/revisions. This week, educators will collaborate with their grade-level teams, subject-level teams and administrators to establish these parameters. Here are some common questions you may have along with my answers:

(Q) Will all assessments have opportunities for retakes?

(A) Educators will collaborate with their grade-level teams, subject-level teams and administrators to establish those assessments that will have opportunities for retakes.

(Q) Will all assignments be revisable?

(A) Educators will collaborate with their grade-level teams, subject-level teams and administrators to establish those assignments that will have opportunities for revisions.

(Q) Will there be due dates?

(A) Because teachers need time to grade, due dates will be established. This week, educators will collaborate with their grade-level teams, subject-level teams and administrators to establish these due dates.

(Q) Will there be a limit to the number of times a student can conduct a retake on an assessment?

(A) Because teachers need time to grade, a limit to the number of times a particular assessment/assignment can be retaken/revised will be established. This week, educators will collaborate with their grade-level teams, subject-level teams and administrators to establish these limits.

The teachers’ grading policies, which will go into effect at the beginning of Quarter 2 on November 2nd, will be published in the teachers’ syllabi.
