SRHS Weekly Update as of 11-1-20

Dear Falcon Families,

A huge thank you for your support as we close the end of our first quarter for the 2020-21 school year. This year has been challenging in many ways so we are so thankful for the support we have received from you. Quarter 2 begins tomorrow, November 1st. I’ve included information on how to get ready for the first day of classes as well as information about the Class of 2021 banner, the Wednesday College Series, our 2nd Virtual Open House, and more. Here are the latest updates as of 11-1-20.

Final Quarter 1 Grades

Final Quarter 1 grades will be available to view on Friday, November 6th via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Due to the school closure, report cards will not be sent home.

Quarter 2 Begins Tomorrow, November 1st

Students, to be prepared for Quarter 2, this evening please check your (1) PowerSchool to confirm your teachers and (2) the Link: Learning Management System Grid 2020-21 to add your teachers’ Learning Management System if you haven’t done so already. Counselors have had to balance some classes to prepare for Quarter 2 so teachers may have changed since the “Welcome Week” the first week of school. All teachers will post their Zoom Meeting information in their Learning Management System by Monday morning prior to period 1.

District Announcement of Phase 2 Opening – January 25th

This past Tuesday, SDUSD announced a phase 2 opening for a tentative date of January 25th. Please see this Link: SRHS On-site Learning Update for details of phase 2. At this time, there is no information on the date for phase 1 re-opening for secondary schools, which I assume would happen before phase 2. I’ll keep you updated as more details are released.

2nd Virtual Open House Delayed to Thursday, November 12th

Because of the newly adopted district grading policy which will be implemented for Quarter 2 (as detailed in last week’s update), we have delayed our 2nd Virtual Open House to Thursday, November 12th to give teachers time to update their videos. As a reminder, for our 2nd Virtual Open House, teachers will create pre-recorded videos and post them on the designated SRHS Virtual Open House website where they can be accessed. The website will go live on November 12th at 3pm so parents can log on and learn about their child’s new teachers and classroom information. I will share the web address in next week’s Sunday update.

Our mission is to have every senior represented on our banner so please spread the word! Thank you!
Inappropriate pictures will not be accepted. Please keep it professional and presentable. Faces must be shown.

PSAT Update

SDUSD has announced that they will sponsor the PSAT for all 11th grade students on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021. As of today, the College Board has announced the PSAT will be administered in-person. As we’ve seen throughout this pandemic, things can change quickly, so the district is hosting a testing coordinator workshop in November to review the protocol and safety requirements to administer an in-person exam. If at that time it is not safe to administer an in-person exam, a contingency plan will be shared. I will share details as I receive them.

Wednesday College Series

The Wednesday College Series this Wednesday, November 4th from 1-1:25pm will feature admission counselors from George Mason University, Syracuse University, University of Iowa, and Washington State University.  To register for this meeting, please complete this Google Form: Wednesday College Series 2020-21. Please do not register using your sandi.net email, please use another email address. A zoom link will be emailed to you the morning of November 4th.
