SRHS Weekly Updates as of 1-18-26
Posted on 01/19/2026

Dear Falcon Families,

We hope everyone is enjoying the three day weekend. Our Scripps Ranch campus is buzzing with school spirit and energy as we enter into our third week of the second semester. Student athletes are busy, with athletic games, and an upcoming, equally busy schedule of anticipated CIF championships in February. Last week our student-athletes gave us plenty to cheer about: Boys Basketball won against La Jolla, Girls Basketball and Boys soccer put up a strong fight against Cathedral, and Girls Soccer crushed Mira Mesa 6-2.

On Friday we had a basketball doubleheader at home. Our Girls were defeated by Lincoln but put up a tough fight. Our Boys added a win to their record, beating Madison 67-58. For spring athletes, see this flyer for tryout information and a schedule: Spring Sports Tryouts 2026

More is in store for our Falcons as winter sports teams continue to compete and other programs (theater, ROTC, drumline, winter colorguard, etc.) continue to prepare and rehearse for shows and competitions). For updated information on all our fantastic programs at Scripps Ranch High School, please visit our website, or the following links: Athletics go HERE, Falcon Playhouse go HERE, Music Program (marching band in the fall) go HERE, ASB updates go HERE, and AFROTC program go HERE

The SRHS Foundation is excited to announce the return of the Wednesday Career Series.  The series begins on Wednesday, January 28th and will feature presentations on a variety of careers. See below for more information.

Save the date - two great events coming up!

Event #1: WACAC Fair: On Saturday, April 18th from 1-3pm in the SRHS Gym where SRHS Foundation and Explore Solutions will be hosting the WACAC Fair featuring 100 colleges. More information will be available in the coming weeks.

Event #2: SRHS Foundation’s Sips for Scripps Fundraiser: Join fellow parents and residents of the Scripps community for our “Sips for Scripps” fundraiser.  See below for more information!

Please remind your students to seek help and communicate with their teachers as soon as they feel themselves beginning to struggle in a course. Remind students to ask teachers about tutoring time, visit our peer tutors on campus, and check out our SR6 (Saturday School) schedule for opportunities to get extra help with their academic work.

There is no school tomorrow, 1/19. In this week’s update, please check out details and reminders about the Wednesday Career Series, the upcoming “Sips for Scripps,” the WACAC Fair, upcoming SR6 (Saturday School) opportunities, the school closure on February 26th, and more.

New Instructional Coordinator Dan Tarnowski

Please help me welcome our new Instructional Coordinator, Dan Tarnowski. Dan is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and brings experience as a former Project Lead the Way instructor and then Assistant Principal at Polaris Career Center, overseeing various CTE programs.

The Instructional Coordinator position is an administrative position with a focus on helping students meet the College and Career Indicator (CCI). The following graphic shows the different ways students can meet the CCI once they graduate: CCI Indicator Infographic

At SRHS, one of Dan’s key focuses will be building partnerships with businesses and organizations to create internship opportunities that give students real-world experience. In addition, Dan will serve in an administrative role similar to our associate principals, supporting student discipline, classroom instruction, and other campus needs. We are excited to welcome Dan to the Falcon Family.

School Closed February 26th - Reminder

Due to that decision, the make up date for classes will be on March 9th, which had been previously scheduled as a non instructional day. Calendar for the 2026-27 School Year - Reminder

We understand that families often plan events, trips, and vacations well in advance. To support scheduling these fun events with your family, I am providing the important dates for the 2026-27 school year below. To maximize your child’s success, please schedule vacations outside of our finals weeks. Missing finals requires students to make arrangements with their teachers after grades close, which creates challenges for both staff and students and could hinder their success. Here are the important dates for the 2026-27 school year:

  • SRHS Annual Kick-Off Dates: Please save the following dates for our annual SRHS Kick-Off event. This is an important event where students return to campus to prepare for the upcoming school year.
  • 9th & 10th Grade: Wednesday, July 29
  • 11th & 12th Grade: Thursday, July 30
  • For more information, please view the event flyer here.
  • School will begin on Monday, August 10th.
  • Semester 1 finals will be the week of December 14th.
  • Semester 2 finals will be the week of May 24th; seniors the week of May 17th
  • The last day of school next year is May 26th.
  • Most likely the graduation ceremony will be May 26th.

SR6 Semester Two - Reminder

Our next session will be held Saturday January 24th. The flyer is updated with S2 dates and scheduled teachers. SR6 (Scripps Ranch 6) is an academic support available to all students. It is a 6th day of school hosted on select Saturdays for four hours, 8am-12pm. A breakfast and lunch meal is available for all students attending Core Academy at no charge. Signing up by the Wednesday prior, and selecting “yes” to breakfast and lunch guarantees it will be available for your student. SR6 is also an avenue for students to recover their attendance (AZTWs in PowerSchool) to remain eligible for school events. View Semester 25-26 SR6 Dates or flyer with all sign up forms

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
