Dear Falcon Families,
We hope everyone has a terrific week to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving to all! After you've fed your friends and families, please check those cupboards for canned goods you can donate! Our JROTC has already started their annual canned food drive and your students can find the bins in their classrooms.
We’ve had a lot to celebrate and be thankful for these last few weeks, and something in particular is our Falcon Student Athletes. For the second year in a row, the Falcons Boys and Girls Cross Country team has won the CIFSDS D2 Championship. Both teams will compete in the State Championships on 11/30. GO FALCONS! Our Marching Band competed in their last competition of the season on 11/23, and the flag football team competed in their CIF championships on Saturday as well. We congratulate all our athletics and music programs on their success during their respective competition seasons.
Save the date, Falcon Families! On December 9, 2024 next FALCONnections event will be held at the Scripps Ranch Library and will feature a talk entitled Stress Management and Building Resilience in Your Teen. Please see below for more information.
The Facts for Parents Booklet is available now in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Families will need to log in and verify their access to this resource. See below for steps on how to access and verify that you have reviewed it. In addition, the Universal Form (the form hosting all the school forms for your student) can now be updated online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Directions on how to access are below.
In an effort to offset the increasing issues with attendance, San Diego Unified is sending out letters every other month, informing families of their students’ attendance record. Only those who are “Nearly Chronically Absent” or “Chronically Absent” will receive a letter. This is a districtwide initiative. Please see below for more information.
This updates message is for 11/24 and for 12/1, and my next weekly update message will be 12/8. When we return from Thanksgiving break, please remind your students to check their grades and take advantage of any opportunities to improve by talking to their teachers and taking advantage of tutoring resources. There are only two more SR6 (Saturday School) opportunities left in this semester, available for students who want to get a tardy or absence excused, and for those who want more support in a class. Students should also check their grade level Google Classroom for updates and stay connected with the ASB Instagram page for event details and upcoming deadlines.
In this week’s announcements, please check out details about an upcoming Bilingual College Fair to be held on January 25, 2025, the FALCONnections meeting, the Facts for Parents Booklet, the Universal Form, and more. See below for details.
We hope you are all able to enjoy some time with friends and family this week, and get some well-deserved rest!
See below for the latest updates as of 11-24-24.

Monthly Attendance Letters - SDUSD
SDUSD is sending out letters, every other month, to inform parents/guardians of their child’s attendance since the time of their enrollment this school year. Only students whose attendance is “Nearly Chronically Absent” or “Chronically Absent” will receive a letter. Districtwide we have seen a decrease in chronic absenteeism over the past two years and we hope to continue to engage in positive ways to keep our students in school. (Chronically Absent: when a student misses 10% or more of the school days they are enrolled in during a school year. Nearly Chronically Absent: 8% - 10%)

Federal Impact Aid Survey - Reminder
It is that time of the year to help our school secure critical funding by completing the Federal Impact Aid form. We are asking ALL families to complete the brief form by using one of the two options described below to help us qualify for funding. Please note that all information provided will be treated confidentially. Impact Aid funds are designated to assist school districts that enroll federally connected students. In San Diego Unified, many students are federally connected based on where they live or where their parents work. Impact Aid funds become part of the district’s general operating budget and support instructional activities for ALL students.
