Dear Falcon Families,

We are excited to begin the 2020-21 school year. I am sending out my weekly update today because I wanted to make sure you had the weekend to prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 31st. There is quite a bit of information to share so I will apologize ahead of time for the long email. I wanted to include as much information as possible so you and your children feel informed and confident going into our first week of school. Here are the latest updates as of 8-28-20.

SD County News

This past Tuesday, August 25th, San Diego County released a statement saying that schools can reopen as of September 1st. The public health order does not require schools to reopen September 1st but leaves it up to school districts to decide independently. As of today, SDUSD secondary guidelines have not changed. We will continue with our plans to begin the school year online until it is determined safe to return to on-site learning. SDUSD is working in collaboration with health experts from the University of California, San Diego to determine when it is safe for students to return to on-site learning. It will be through this collaboration that a decision will be made.

Online Expectations

Please click this (Link) to reference an online addendum to our SRHS handbook. Students should familiarize themselves with the Zoom norms on page 1 to be ready for Monday. As we continue to learn in our online environment this document will be updated accordingly.

Attendance Expectations

Attendance will be taken daily. Students will be marked present for participation in live instruction and/or completion of online assignments. If your child is sick or going to be absent please follow the same procedures of contacting the school as you would in a traditional year.

PowerSchool Student Portal

The PowerSchool Student Portal was closed Thursday morning to allow for counselors to work on the schedule change requests that came in on Wednesday. Counselors are currently reviewing all requests submitted and will honor those that fit within the master schedule. The PowerSchool Student Portal will open back up the morning of Sunday, August 30th. On this day students can log in and see their class schedule for the 2020-21 school year. Please note, minor changes may continue to be made through Sunday evening as counselors make final balancing adjustments for the upcoming school year. If a student’s quarter 3 teacher does not match their quarter 1 teacher, that is ok. The same with quarter 2 teacher not matching quarter 4 teacher. These will be fixed in the system. If you have a duplicate class or a hole in your schedule, please contact your counselor.

Period Labels in PowerSchool

Because we are on a quarter system this year, students’ classes will not show as periods 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. They will show as period 1, 2, 3 for quarters 1 and 3 and period 1, 2, 3 for quarters 2 and 4. Period 1, 2, 3 for quarters 2/4 would be called Periods 4, 5, 6 in a traditional year. Click this (Link) to see an example of a student’s schedule.

Click this (Link) to access our LMS Access Chart which shows all of our teachers and their class’s add codes. Use the appropriate code to sign up for your Google Classrooms.

For those teachers using Canvas, students will automatically be added to the LMS, so no need to add their class.

Access to Teachers’ Zoom Meetings for 9:45 – 10:45am Check-in Sessions

Students should access each teachers’ Learning Management System to access the Zoom Meeting ID. The Zoom Meeting ID’s will be posted on the home page of the teachers’ LMS. Teachers will also email this ID to students directly using their Sandi district email accounts. As a reminder, a student’s Sandi district email address is the student’s ID number following by Example:

During the month of September educators, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.
