SRHS Weekly Updates as of 5-5-24
Posted on 05/05/2024

Dear Falcon Families,

This past Wednesday our Aspen Challenge Team of students did a spectacular job presenting their project to the Jeff Bezos Foundation’s Aspen Challenge. They received a plethora of positive feedback on how polished and professional their presentation was and I think their team deserved the first place prize. While they ultimately didn’t win the grand prize, the lessons and learning they took away was priceless. It was a pleasure to work with them this year. Check out some pictures from the event: Picture 1 | Picture 2

AP testing will begin this Monday; students are ready, having worked hard this year to prepare. Best of luck to all of our AP test takers.

We have four full weeks left, and then finals week, left in our school year. Please remind your students to follow up with their teachers if they need tutoring or have questions about their grades.

Our athletes continue to amaze as we begin the CIF playoff season for spring sports. Be sure to visit the website for schedules, and then come out to support our Falcons: https://srfalcons.org/. Best of luck to all our spring athletes as they finish their respective seasons.

In today’s update, I’ve provided information on AP testing, our We Hear Youth Survey, Continuing Student Packets, the important LCFF income survey, and more. See below for the latest updates as of 5-5-23.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Those teachers who are offering revision/reassessment opportunities will have communicated with their students. We encourage all students who have scheduled revision/reassessment opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

Congratulations Quinton!

Congratulations to our newest SDUSD student board member, Quinton Baldis. We’re looking forward to him representing both SRHS and SDUSD next year and providing valuable input on various issues.

We Hear Youth Survey Student Response Report

Mending Matters worked with Scripps Ranch High School student L.I.F.E. Advisors to roll out the voluntary and anonymous We Hear Youth survey earlier this school year. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about students’ day-to-day experiences and how they are best supported in order to enhance responsive mental health resources. 571 students responded to the survey. The L.I.F.E Advisors highlighted a few of those responses in a reflection video to support a healthy school culture that will be shared during Advisory this week. The purpose of the reflection video is to wrap the numbers in hope, support, and resources - our goal is that students take away: (1) They are not alone, (2) there is support in their community, and (3) some ideas on how to start conversations about their wellness if and when they need support. The full student response report document with the results of the survey is included here.

Continuing Student Packets

“Continuing Student Packets” were sent home last month through students’ 3rd period teachers. If your student has not turned it in back to the teacher, please have them return it to Mrs. Kish in the counseling office ASAP.

Counseling Updates

Families, Continuing Student Personalized packets were sent home and returned last week. If you still have a packet at home, please complete and ask your student to submit it to the counseling office as soon as possible.

2024-25 LCFF Income Survey

San Diego Unified launched the 2024-25 LCFF data collection on April 19 and will be using PowerSchool Parent Portal and SurveyMonkey. Parents may submit a response via either method, and note that an email from “[email protected] via surveymonkey.com” is legitimate. If you have questions, please contact Diana Noroozi at [email protected]

Library Closure

From April 22 through May 17, the library will not be open before, during, and after school due to testing. If your student needs to return a book or has issues with their Chromebook, please have them go to Room 467. Mrs. Rohrer will be able to assist them. After school peer tutoring will be moved to room 555.

Library Requests

Please click the following link to check on outstanding library material: What do you have Checked Out?. All textbooks and novels are due at the end of the school year so they can be checked out the following year. All SDUSD materials have a barcode, but please note, the barcodes could be from other SDUSD schools since we share all materials. There are still a lot of outstanding items from years past so please have students return anything they aren't using as soon as possible to avoid an end of year panic.
